Back to school sales?

I think most start around or after July 4th. Places like Walmart and Target generally wait until after the holiday to move out the summer stuff so they can move in the back to school stuff.
 
But isn't 'putting out the back to school stuff' different from 'the back to school sales'?

Schools just barely gotten out here. I'd expect the back to school sales to be more around mid-August to very early Seotember.

I seem to remember the sales starting very early for us. I think because the stores put the sales out nationally, not regionally, they need to start before the earliest school start dates.

Last year by the time our school started (Wednesday after Labor Day), most of the school supply sections at the stores had been put away or reduced to a very small area. In fact, they were starting to take things away before we even had supply lists the last week of August. It makes it a little difficult, but I do know to at least pick up folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, etc. when I see the sales.
 
our school isnt even out yet here LOL-last thing I am thinking about is next years school supplies! They did come out with a list already though, I may just order them through the school for 79.00 for the whole package. It will be waiting on their desks the first day of school.
 
The first Staples back to school ad is July 8.
The other office stores will be in the same time frame.
Mass merchandisers/drug stores will likely be a week later.

School has been out for 5 weeks here and resume again in 6 weeks. I've been turning in old ink cartridges all quarter to get certificates for Staples in the 3rd quarter.

Oooh... recycling cartridges to save on the school supplies, that's BRILLIANT. $.05/pack pencils are good... FREE pencils are better :rotfl2:

Question, you mentioned returning now for 3rd quarter coupons, but the website says "limit 10 per month." So if I trade them in now, I'll get coupons good for the third quarter?
 
School doesn't end here until next week.

I'm not expecting to see back to school deals here until mid July early August.
 
Start the first week of August here. The good thing the kids can wear shorts to school for first three months of school. Okay I live in the South and want start buying pants until November. I might actually buy them a real coat this year. No I am not kidding. They will not freeze either. They will have something to keep them warm. I bought them all new coats last year and it was not cold enough to wear them.
 
I received a letter from Staples last week stating that they are changing the way they are discounting the school supplies to teachers. Used to be that if something was a penny (or whatever the sale price was) and there was a limit of 3 items at that price, they'd let teachers get 25 of the said item for the advertised price. So I could go in and buy 25 folders for .25 cents, 25 packs of paper for 10 cents each, etc..

Well, from now on, anything teachers purchase over the limit will be charged at the full price and then given back in Staples rewards. So if a pack of pencils is 1 cent each, limit three, and I buy 25 packs, I now have to pay full price for 22 packs and would get the money back in rewards. Definitely not as good of a deal when purchasing for a whole class. That gets expensive!

I have a pull-out program and kids get added all year, so I never get schools supplies and end up just keeping a supply in my classroom. It's been great with Staples extending the limits for the sale prices, but now I'm not going to be able to spend that much OOP. :sad2:

School starts back here in mid August, so back to school stuff comes out right after July 4th and the big sales usually start the first of August.

Used to be that if something was a penny (or whatever the sale price was) and there was a limit of 3 items at that price, they'd let teachers get 25 of the said item for the advertised price. So I could go in and buy 25 folders for .25 cents, 25 packs of paper for 10 cents each, etc..

Well, from now on, anything teachers purchase over the limit will be charged at the full price and then given back in Staples rewards. So if a pack of pencils is 1 cent each, limit three, and I buy 25 packs, I now have to pay full price for 22 packs and would get the money back in rewards. Definitely not as good of a deal when purchasing for a whole class. That gets expensive!

I have a pull-out program and kids get added all year, so I never get schools supplies and end up just keeping a supply in my classroom. It's been great with Staples extending the limits for the sale prices, but now I'm not going to be able to spend that much OOP. :sad2:

When I needs more than was allowed I brought my daughter and 4 of her friends to staples- each one had the max of each item allowed and waited on line and paid for them- we then drove 10 minutes to another staples and did the same thing! We do that alot because we donate school supplies to a back to school program so it lets us get a lot for a little to donate!
 
Yeah every place around here starts putting things out AND putting them on sale just after July 4th. We have been out since 3rd week of May and start back August 10th.
 
Way too early. We start after Labor Day and don't get supply lists until the first day, and by then all the school supply seasonal sections have been replaced by Halloween. :( Mid-late July seems to be when the good sales run and I stock up on the perennial items like pencils but it never fails that the kids need some odd little thing I end up ordering online because there isn't a single store in town that has it by Sept.

Yes,I know the dollar tree composition books are a bargin. They use a cheap newsprint type of paper. When little Tommy erases, the paper will rip.

Yeah I'm not happy about the change in staples policy and I will be stocking less supplies.

I am a total Crayola snob so you wouldn't hear any complaining from me! :thumbsup2 I honestly appreciate my kid's teachers asking for very specific items and brands because I know that one batch of supplies will last all year and we have exactly what the teacher wants/needs. But I also realize that while I can afford to be a supply snob that many parents can't for various reasons. So I always buy extras of everything and take them in for the teacher to give to the little ones that might need them.

Another thing that I like is when a teacher sends home a classroom wish list for the year. My kids have been blessed with great teachers and I love having a list of things that their teachers want and need so that we can buy useful things for them throughout the year.

Not that it helps much, but I've had great experiences with Staples rewards. I always get the right amount on time, and then use them to buy things like toilet papers, etc.
