My son's entering Grade 8 this year and I'm looking for the best possible method of organizing him (which will make my life much easier). I how he's ultimately responsible for himself and his homework but I'd like to get him started on the right foot. What works for your kids? Keep in mind his school does not have lockers and the majority of the "textbooks" are photocopies as opposed to a textbook he can actually label as his own - and I HATE loose paper in the backpacks ...

He wants to try spiral bound notebooks this year. The problem is what do I do with the loose handouts? I'm thinking he should use a Five-Star zipper binder and then at least (hopefully) everything's in one place. He might need to use the spiral bound for his work and a duo-tang for his handouts - help ...

we are all trying to get more organized for back to school ( and the Holidays but shhhh were not talking about that yet ;) )

My daughter has severe organization problems (ADD). She is also going into 8th grade. Her school requires that all student carry those huge, zippered binders. That was a real nightmare for her. One of the teachers recommended that she try one of those divided folder things. I'm not describing it well, but it has like 8 different sections and the top comes over and it secures with a big elastic band--what the heck are they called???? Each section is designated for each separate subject. Anyway, it was a godsend for the loose papers and much smaller than the binder. I think a combination of the spiral notebooks and this organizer thing would work well. My daughter was able to get "permission" to deviate from the zipper binder since she has documented ADD  . I would hope they would let any kid use it who had a need.

Christine ...

I looked at that organizer - it comes in cool colours here - and I thought of the same thing. Label it accordingly and all loose papers are kept in there - that organizer comes homes every day, regardless, so he has all loose papers at hand. My only fear is if he loses that somehow, he loses EVERYTHING!

I can undestand! We were lucky that we did not lose it last year. It always made it home in the backpack; although, I guess there was a day or two that she forgot to bring it home.

Any other ideas or hints that work for you and/or your children?
