Maggie

I don't think there's anything there that I need, but thank-you for taking the time to list that out, I always seem to miss the good stuff in the ads:confused3.

I took my 14yo DD clothes shopping at an outlet mall yesterday. My best deal were jeans on clearance at Pacsun for $4.99  and DD loves them! The Hanes outlet had bras 25% off if you bought 3 and if you sign up for their punch card you got 20% off one regular priced item so for about $50 I got 3 bras and two packages of boy's boxers. At Aeropostale I bought one pair of jeans and one pack of socks and when I paid they gave me a coupon to get one pair of jeans for $20 starting July 23rd in store or online and it printed out a coupon code for 30% off my total purchase. They didn't have any signs up advertising that so pay close attention to your receipt so you don't miss it.

I envy you all who can shop now! At most, I can purchase pens and pencils but we do not get our school list until the FIRST day of school:scared1: What a nightmare. This is when you learn each teacher WANTS matching notebooks with binders and folders or whatever (and they tell YOU what color), etc. They even demand specific binders (2",3", zippered, hard opened plastic). The varity is so wide, it is impossible to TRY to buy the correct items. They even dictate the size of the notebooks to purchase (you know, 1 subject, 3 subject etc).

Last year I tried shopping ahead to get the sale prices, and spent two days returning items and repurchasing new stuff because I gambled and took a guess as to what to buy.

So, not this year, I have decided to wait for the list, but I have also decided that I will not go crazy playing this matchie matchie game to satisfy teachers. If you want matchie matchie, then send the list home over the summer for us parents. I do not think it is right to send the school list home last minute and then dictate what you WANT(especially since you do this every year and already know what your students will need), AND I do not think it is right that I should miss important sales for school supplies. Financially, times are difficult and I do not appreciate others making it more difficult!

Sorry, I am off the soap now. Suddenly I felt a need to vent. But please know this is not meant for all schools and teachers out there, I am specifically talking about MY school district for our middle and high schools.

Please, no flames!!!

no flames here, you're absolutely right. the teachers know what will be needed-the list should be sent home at the end of the prior school year (this is what DD's middle school does), so that parents can shop the sales, instead of picking through leftovers after school starts.

I would talk to someone in administration about this and make the suggestion to get the lists out early. It may be like at our school, where teachers have the list ready at the end of the prior year, but the schools don't have class assignments done. In that case, maybe they could send it out in the mail? I mean, it could be done bulk mail very cheaply. It sucks to have to wait.

This is mind blowing to me--and I'm a HS teacher! We are not allowed to insist on anything except a binder, so I stock up when kids are throwing them out on locker cleanout day at the end of school. Kids can "shop" my binder store if they don't have one--I have over 50 this year. My pet peeze is kids having nothing to write with, which starts abotu 1 month into the school year. My advice--hold back some pens and pencils and dole them out at each report card time.

Thank you OP of the Kmart sale!! Just got back and spent $26 all on those school supplies. Gotta love $1 markers!
My receipt says I save $60:cool1:

I have to check my HS son's backpack every night. I swear he must EAT pencils, LOL. I make sure he has 3-4 in there at all times, as well as a few pens. I am a teacher too, so I was able to get 25 of the 8 pk pencils at Staples last week. I went back TWICE, so I should have enough to supplement my classroom and keep my son in pencils as well.

Thanks for understanding!!! It blows my mind too. I wish we had you, you sound like you really try to help!!! Your district is lucky to have teachers like yourself who go the extra mile when it comes to supplies, especially binders. I am sure parents appreciate all you try to do!!!

I HAD to go to wal-mart today, and they price-matched from Office Depot, Office Max and Target :) It was nice just having to go to 1 store!

If you have a college nearby, check the local thrift shops for binders. Mine has the big ones (3-4") for 50 cents! They can also be a good place to find gently used backpacks.

If you have a kroger they are doing a catalina deal on school supplies. In some regions this is overlapping with .25 crayola crayons and $1 markers.

bic pens are included(prices are .50-.79), along with expo, crayola, avery products ends August 11th

Spend $20 get $4 cat, spend $10 get $2 cat. I got the pre-sale price as credit. I bought 4 bic pens, 7 crayons and 1 marker and got the $4 cat. I had old bic coupons so my total OOP was $3.66 and I got the $4 cat (I bought other items with the school supplies so that was just my supply oop) :rotfl:

You're welcome. We didn't end up going to Kmart since we don't have one close by.

We did go to WM and Walgreens. Walmart had come good deals.

24 pack Crayola. .25. I saw a man buy all they had-about 200-300 boxes.
70 sheet spiral bound notebook, .15.

I needed to buy DD10 a few sprial notebooks and enough paper for the year. I originally picked up a pack of 150 sheets for .75. I put that back and bought 5 extra 70 sheet notebacks for .75. So I got 350 sheets for .75 instead of 150 sheets for the same price. All I had to do was take the paper out of the notebook. Pretty easy and I saved a few pennies.:goodvibes

I saw mentions of the Case it binders somewhere on here and wanted to post that Target has them on sale this week. They range from $10-$18 I think.
