Back to School Bargain Thread

At my old school, we had to have our welcome letter and supply list for the next year ready before school was out and we stuffed envelopes and put on addresses for each of our families. These were sent out mid July, so the parents knew what was needed,as well as what teacher their child would have. At the new school, I bet they don't even finalize placement until some time in August. Last year, they made changes even after the teachers came back!

I know that's frustrating! I must say, our schools are on the ball. We get the supply list with the final report card.

I may suggest this to my principal. If the general grade level list can at least be given out, that would help some. That is all that goes on our website anyway. Then any additional items can be requested at Open House.

The elementary kids get next year's list with their final report card. The middle school has it printed online, and now I'm waiting for the high schools still. I'm all done with the 3 youngest!

I am 99 % done ! Just came back from Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is not my favorite shopping experience :lmao: but wanted to get it all done in 1 place. I think overall the deals were very good. I made sure I bought multiple items & stocked up. I think I made a bad choice in the #2 pencils. I bought the 24 packs & paid $3.97 ouch without noticing until Igot home. I had thought they were $2.00. I still need a small pencil sharpener with cap & even with the list I forgot the thin washable Crayola makers.

I think I'll go to my Walgreens tomorrow to stockup on t $.25 composition books & get the last 2 items. After this the dreaded uniform shopping :scared1: Changed DS to a Catholic School for 2nd grade & I have no choice in uniform shopping. EVERYTHING has to be bought at the uniform store. From socks, pants, shorts, all shirts, belt, tie, PE uniform... Looking at $300 & then going back in Oct for "winter" uniform shopping. Don't get me started on the solid white/black "Reabock" PE shoe & Sketcher lace up everyday school shoe

Office Depot has their ad up for next week and they have:

filler paper for 25 cents
4 pack expo markers are free after rebate BUT the rebabte gives a visa gift card
Hand sanitizer is also free after rebate
2 poccket folders are 5 cents (limit 5)

In Elementary school, DD used to get the list with the report card. However, Middle school has the "basic" list online. Her open house is a few days before school starts and then we find out what her individual teachers request for their supplies.

My pleasure. :) I'm usually a brand snob on markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc, but have found them to be as good as Crayola for less than 1/2 the cost. Can't go wrong with that! :)

I'm still having a heck of a time finding beginners pencils. Everywhere I've gone to they have been sold out. I'm going to try again tomorrow when I'm out. Hopefully I'll have more luck. I'd rather not buy just those online if I don't have to.

Did you check at Staples? I saw them at mine yesterday.

If any of you need shoes for your kids, our Target has had "take an additional 50% off the clearance price" on all their shoes this week. I just bought a total of 16 pairs including dress shoes, sandals and sneakers (for my 3 kids, 2 nieces, nephew and DH) for the next year or so and my total was $56! One pair was Converse sneakers for DH for $8.24, and 3 pair of dress shoes for DH for $4.24 each - a great deal. Others were sneakers for DS for $1.24 per pair.

ok bargain shoppers, i just got back from wal-mart, and i was looking at the clear backpacks (the only ones allowed at DD's school) and the tag on the backpack said it was $10.00...not a bad price, and it was a large size, so i decided to buy it. when i rang it up at the self-checkout, it was $5.00!!!! i was floored! for those who need a clear backpack, this is an eastport brand, clear, black piping and straps. i would have gotten the pink for her (one of her favorite colors) but it was smaller, and wouldn't have held all her stuff.

For anyone looking for socks, underwear or undershirts in the Great Lakes area, Meijers has a deal going where if you buy $10 worth of Keebler, Eggo, or Kelloggs (All of which are on sale) you immediately get $10 off a Fruit of the Loom purchase which are also on sale. I got a package of socks, one of boxers and one of undershirts for under $6.

Our list has a "plastic 12" ruler sized pencil box" Most pencil boxes are 8 or 9". I have found ruler boxes on-line. Good deal for $3.00 but the $8.00:scared1: S&H kills it for me. Has anyone found a ruler box in stores anywhere.

I've found the 12 inch ones at Staples. They weren't too pricey.
