Whats your child wanting/liking this year (or do they even care)?

I bought ds a LL Bean one a couple years ago and it was great, he is wanting a different one this year - so the hunt is on......

My third grader has a great Jansport backpack that we bought for last year. It's in perfect condition after a little washing. He wants a new backpack for this year. He says he likes the old one, but just wants a change. I can understand that, but he's going to be spending his own $$ if he really wants to get a new one! :thumbsup2 He wants another Jansport, he says, just a different color.
He has a Lands End lunchbag that he'll continue to use. It's worked out very well. I'm going to get a similar lunchbag for younger DD. She already has a nice Lands End backpack which she loves. I've never gone wrong with Lands End stuff.

my DD is required to have a clear backpack. i hate them, they're always cheaply made and the one i bought last fall barely made it 2 months before it broke. i usually buy her a solid-colored lunch tote at wal-mart, normally red or pink, as those are her favorite colors. she's in middle school and doesn't always like what the lunchroom serves.

DS is 9 and past the character back pack stage. He wants a new backpack this yr, but I am going el-cheapo and getting one at Target. He doesn't usually have a lot of books, so the cheap ones work for us until the pack gets heavy. I'll get a Jansport or LL Bean when he starts having more stuff to lug around. He also needs a new lunch box...he ripped the one last yr (how, I have no idea). But he only packs his lunch once every couple of weeks...he loves school lunches :lmao::confused3

DS2 is 3 yrs old, and starting a special ed pre-k. So I'm not sure what I'll be buying him. He is super picky, so I am sure I'll be looking for an Elmo lunchbox or something. Don't know if he needs a backpack yet.

Both of our boys have LL Bean backpacks. The oldest got a lizard-print one when he was in 1st grade, and last year he decided he was too old for that (3rd grade, lol). I got both boys a solid color one last year. All 3 are still in almost perfect condition, other than a couple of pen marks on one of them.

I'm going to get LL Bean lunch boxes this year too, solid colors in those too, so hopefully they won't outgrow those for awhile (private school, no cafeteria).

My 9yo DD is going into 4th grade. Her Children's Place lunchbox from Kindy is still perfect. So is her backpack from there! 4 years going strong. She really want an LL Bean rolling backpack and I said if I get her one she WILL use it thru 8th grade so she better like it,lol!

We use LL Bean for both. They are so durable!

My boys both have Lands End backpacks that they will be using again. The one is 3 years old and still looks great.

DD13 got a Lands End backpack in first grade which lasted until the last week of school (7th grade) last year when the stitching on a strap pulled out. She replaced it with another LandsEnd one which she hopes makes it through until graduation.

DS11 started kindergarten with a LLBean. He is heading into 6th grade in the fall and the bag still looks fantastic. When his sister's broke last year he got worried and let us know that if his ever breaks he wants the closest thing to what he has as Bean is making.

Both have LLBean lunch boxes. Those are about 5 years old and still look good. I like the bigger size and how easy they are to clean.

We only use LL Bean backpacks and lunchboxes here. My girls are now in college and high school, but even through elementary and middle school, LL Bean was what they wanted. What I like most is the lifetime guarantee. In fact, I'm having to send my high schoolers off this week becasue a strap broke. I love the no hassle exchanges.

My DD9 is going to get a new one from LLBean. After years of buying the Disney store ones and having them fall apart before Christmas, I told her we had to get a good one!

Anyone else have bad luck with the Disney ones? The zippers, the handles, pockets, you name it! And she takes good care of it and it still falls apart!

I don't think it is just the Disney ones, but character backpacks in general. My DS had a Star Wars Clone Wars backpack in 2nd grade, and it was falling apart before Christmas. You pay for the character, but the backpack itself isn't worth a darn. Same thing goes for the character lunch boxes/bags IMO.

I got my DD5's at Pottery barn kids. They have free shipping AND I got hers in the sale section under "accessories". It was less than 25 bucks and the lunch box was less than 11... I cannot wait for her to start kindergarten!

I will say that my good friend bought the exact same ones last year for DD, she took them everyday to pre-k, and will be using them again this year. They seem to be pretty durable. Hope this helps!

Oh I really like these after looking at them, thanks for tip.

Wonder if a 7 year old is too old for his name to be on it???

I am sure it depends on the kid--DS11 still likes his name to go on things. It is on his lunch box and we just ordered sleeping bags a couple of weeks ago and he wanted his name on his stuff sack.

Well my daughter is off to Jr. High this year....that means no backpacks- they are not "cool" or "in" there....the kids use tote bags- like the kind that Aeropostale sells.

I already bought my DD13 an Eclipse lunchbox and an Edward (main character) tote. They can't carry backpacks in her school so she likes the totes. My son hasn't said one way or the other. He is kinda tough on them.

We are re using last years Land's End backpack. It is still in great shape. His LE lunch box didn't fare as well, so we are ordering a new one this year. They are $5 off and I have a code for free shipping.
