Back to Back trips in August-The How Could You's Ride Again!- Final Thoughts 4/14

Woo Hoo! Enjoying your report! Love the ME comment your son made...good one!

And I agree...the two main singers of the Lion King show are incredible!

Linda, great updates.

You got a lot of good shots of the "backside" of the animals. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I saw the giraffe hiding behind the tree (I never miss a giraffe).

I am not a fan of pizza at Disney (or in Florida for that matter), but I have to say it wasn't as bad as I expected.

You got AWESOME shots at the Lion King show. And I'm with you...Disney we don't want Avatar!

Thanks. On our 2nd Safari, I got some "frontsides". I was loving my new camera. Took wayyyyy too many photos.
Sorry that you were the one who got the giant wave on Kali River Rapids. I'm not a fan of walking around soaking wet so we haven't ridden it in several years.

You got some really great behind pictures of the animals on safari. They just didn't want to smile for the picture did they?:p

Next trip!

Yes, DS is quite the comedian!

After our wonderful show had ended, it was time to trek back across the park. The skies were looking a bit gray but we opted to head towards Africa for a second try at the safari. As we were standing under cover of the 10min stand by line, the skies opened up and it began to rain. I got a little excited as I've heard the animals are more active after a rain. We just had to hope it wasn't pouring when we got on our safari truck.

Luck was with us!! It slowed to just a drizzle as our truck pulled up and we boarded for another 2 week safari.

Look!!! Not a backside!!

149_zpse6eff168.jpg

Ok, so sometimes we still got the backside!! :rotfl:

150_zps70f7b49f.jpg

Most of the animals were out and about. It was a great safari. Let's ride on, shall we?

Love the stuff you learn. Who would ever have thought these big horns would be hollow and full of blood vessels, and if they are cut off or come off in a fight, the animal will bleed to death.

155_zps7c082f62.jpg

another backside-he was looking into the hut, but the van jerked just as I snapped the photo and I cut off his head. But it was so cute. We were wondering what was going on in there.

OK so it was just my artsy attempt at a photo of DH. :joker:

Baby elephant was out rolling in the dirt to cover himself with earth-made sunscreen.

We got a rhino and then another quick look at the lions from the other side of the hill.

173_zps9f83640d.jpg

We finished our grand 2 week safari and headed out to check in on some bugs.

174_zps18633d40.jpg

Then it was time to head back around to use our FPs for Everest. We stopped for a look-see and look and see who was out!

177_zps1499c760.jpg

178_zpsb83f1076.jpg

We had a great ride down the Mountain. They put us in 2 different sections, though. So no great ride photo (or bootleg photo either). We wandered over to check out some Dinosaurs stopping for a snack (Itzakadoozis for the boys and some water for the big people). The line for Dino was over 20 min and out the door. We opted to skip it and head back to the resort to shower and change for dinner.

We were headed to BOMA tonight!! DS picked this for his cousin's birthday dinner. We had to wait a bit when we got there, so we headed out to Arusha Rock to wait.

Just in case you didn't see enough of the animals on our safari... :lmao:

There was a battle brewing on the Arusha Savannah!!

We watched for a bit as these antelope? had a tussle and clacked antlers back a forth for a few minutes.

Time for dinner!!!

Once again, I missed the photos of mealtime. But I did capture a few quick photos with my phone of DNephew with his birthday desert.

507_zpsc8b8726f.jpg

508_zpsb29d549f.jpg

We had a wonderful meal. But for 4 "adult" meals and 18% tip it was a bit pricey at $199.00 :scared1: That would be the reason for "free dining" if you are one who likes to eat in the buffets or nicer restaurants. Or the reason for counter service dining when you opt to take the room only discount.

Snapped a couple more photos with my phone at the resort.

Just a snapshot of things that happen around AKL daily

511_zps72c0e1ff.jpg

We headed back to POP via a bus first to DHS then to the resort.
We got back to POP and the kids changed for a little pool time.

200_zpsab352d24.jpg

Phineas and Ferb was playing by the pool for movie night.

201_zps55001156.jpg

DH and I took a little walk around Hourglass Lake while the kids watched the movie, and then we all headed up to bed. We were pooped. 3 very busy days.

Next up....not sure what to do tomorrow. We'll play it by ear. It is supposed to be a rope drop DHS day, but we are pretty tired!

What wonderful updates! You got some terrific shots on the safari and I couldn't believe the great shots you got of the lions. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

And then even more great pictures at AKL (which I agree...it is a beautiful resort and I love the smell when you walk in).

We have never done dinner at Boma, only breakfast. How did you like dinner? We've talked about giving it a try but Nicki didn't care for it and she has never steered me wrong yet.

Great day at AK...and you most definitely did get some good shots on the safari! I love AKL also, but not crazy about the remoteness of it, or the long hike to the rooms!

Looking forward to hearing what you did next!

Thanks. The male was even roaring! First time I ever saw them really up and moving and not just lying on a rock. Dinner at BOMA is good, but not $50 per person good. I like the different flavors and getting to choose some foods I otherwise wouldn't try just because I wouldn't want to be stuck with a whole meal I didn't like. If it weren't for DS wanting to eat there, I probably would have made other plans this time.

Thanks. A new installment coming up today! If you ever want to try AKL again, get a pool view and request Zebra trail close to elevator. You will be just a short walk from everything. Plenty of places to view the animals from if you don't have a savannah view.

Sunday July 28th - Day 4

So, we all slept in a little (sort of-the boys and I were up and out for breakfast by 8am). They wanted breakfast at the food court. :confused3 So we wandered over to Everything POP.

On our way downstairs we noticed the mama dove had left her nest and this was what was inside..

202_zps0cfc2db8.jpg

At this point the babies were alive and waiting for mama to come back with some food.

We continued on downstairs after admiring the little ones.

Map of the resort (sorry for the glare)

203_zps9afead9e.jpg

And into the shops/food court

204_zpsd5b138d7.jpg

Again, no food photos. Sorry. I had the kids meal with waffles and the boys had the American platters+toast+muffins. I used my Disney Rewards Visa for the purchase and spent $23.48. I wasn't overly thrilled with my waffles. They were a little burnt for my liking and the bacon wasn't as crispy as it usually was. I finished my breakfast and the boys were still lollygagging around with theirs and watching Phineas and Ferb on the TV-which prompted me to ask "What are we gonna' do today, Ferb?" The boys sort of wanted a water park day so our rope drop at DHS would have to be replanned for another day during the week.

I grew tired of sitting and waiting for them and told them I was going out to walk around and take some photos. Let's take a trip around POP, shall we?!

Our road trips to FL when I was younger included some top Country Hits. ;)
This is a cute way to hide the staircases in the 70s sections.

I wonder how often kids stop along here to play.

One of my most treasured childhood "rides". More kids these days need to ride these around.

Now we are really getting into the items I can remember vividly from my childhood. One of my friends had one of these phones on their kitchen counter and I really wanted one of these.

I have a nephew that can knock this puzzle out in no time. I would get so frustrated I'd unscrew the thing and put it back together. :rolleyes1 A great hide for the 80s staircases.

Where were you for this last show? Do you recall watching it?

234_zpseb58c21e.jpg

This concludes our tour of POP Century. About this time my cell phone was buzzing off the chain. Both the boys and DH were wondering what had happened to me. :hourglass Time was getting away from them and the boys wanted to get going to the waterpark!!!

To be continued.....

We left off after the tour of POP heading back to the room to gather everything together and head to a water park for today. What's going on at the resort today?

235_zps8d0b7b5b.jpg

Which water park shall we go to?

237_zps3333a620.jpg

236_zpsf3f86d0e.jpg

If you followed along on the TR from last summer, you'll know we went to Blizzard Beach last year and used some days from old passes. So this time we opted to go to TL. We had 1 day of water park fun left on one of those same old passes. :thumbsup2 Good thing, because when I saw the price of a one day pass to a water park, I almost changed my mind! :crazy2: Even with the passholder discount, those tickets were $52.19 per person.

We arrived to the gates just after 11am and (after I choked on the price) purchased the other 3 tickets and rented a $15 locker (so nice of them to give me $5 back at the end of the day).

Most of the loungers at the front of the park were full. The CMs told us to head around by Shark Reef-lots of open space in that area. :beach: The boys couldn't drop their stuff fast enough. Thankfully, I had brought 1 beach towel from home (with my hospital logo on it making our spot easy to see) as the only way to get a towel at the water parks is to rent them! :crazy2:

DH and I did a photo tour of the water park before locking everything away and heading out to the slides for our own fun. Come on along!!

240_zpsf8d01257.jpg

We meant to come back to swim with the sharks, but never got around to it.

242_zpsa3348af6.jpg

This was a photo of shark reef, but after reviewing the photos, I had to wonder what was going on here? :confused3 :lmao: I guess (s)he thought a bra matched well with those board shorts?

254_zpsd2c6e8b2.jpg

That's the end of the great photo shoot. Time to put the camera away and go have some fun! We had to check out Crushin' Gusher!! Great time! We hit some of the tube slides and the family raft ride. The lines weren't too bad for most of the slides. I recall the raft ride having the longest line of the day. We cruised the lazy river and, around 2pm, decided it was time to grab some lunch.

We went to the Leaning Palms and ordered a hot dog kids meals with bottled water, 2 cheeseburgers, an order of fries, and a turkey sandwich kids meal, and 2 diet cokes. (we had a refillable mug, but their bar code readers weren't working at some of the stations). Total $40.20 for lunch. The tables were rather crowded and a nice family let us join them at their table. Once they were done, we invited another family with 2 girls to join us. We all had great visits with one another. The family with the girls lived in the area and were just out for the day. We gave our sandpails from our kids meals to the girls to use for the rest of the day and headed back out to continue our fun.

We headed back to the wave pool. DH and I swam out to wait for the big wave. What we thought would be a 10 min wait for the big wave wasn't!! :faint: We got the smaller rolling waves first. We stayed out there treading water and back floating another 30 min waiting on the big wave! Let's just say, that one big wave was it for me! It carried me all the way in to shore. Then the next wave followed it and knocked my glasses clean off my head (I did have one of those straps attached to keep them on my head). I thought I was doomed. Then the kid walking next to me said "ooh" and I knew he had just stepped on them. :headache: Luckily they weren't too badly damaged (just really loose in the arms) and I did have an old pair along which I ended up using for the rest of the trip.

About 5:30 a nice little storm came rolling in and the CMs had to clear the pools. We waited it out and had a nice conversation with one of the lifeguards there on her College Program. Around 6:30, the slides reopened and it was much less crowded. No waits for the tube slides so we hit them all again. We stayed through closing. I got the stuff out of the locker around 7:40pm (while the boys finished their last trip through the wave pool) and collected my deposit from Singapore Sals. And then we headed back off to the bus.

We were back to the resort shortly after 8pm. The boys were hungry and headed off to Everything POP for food. Meanwhile, DH said he would hang with the boys at the resort while I took the evening to go do something fun by myself!!!

Guess where I decided to go?

Linda, thank you so much for the tour of Pop. Can you believe we've only been there once and that was so we could drop someone off at the front door?

I remember so much of the stuff you posted. And, yes, I did watch Johnny Carson's goodbye show and cried throughout the show.

We've not done a water park in years. If we did, we would definitely pick TL. We love the lazy river and the wave pool. Unfortunately, unless they put in elevators, we don't do the slides anymore (Mark just can't handle all of those stairs).

Wow...that was pricey to get in. And I can't believe they charge you for towels.

You're welcome! Love to provide resort tours. The wave pool at TL is most definitely bigger and badder than BB. That is a large price to pay for a water park day. I would much rather spend my day at the resort pool or in a park-only went for the kids. And I forgot you don't get towels unless you bring your own (or ones from the hotel) without renting them. I knew that from our BB stay the previous year.

Sorry all, but no updates today or tomorrow. Hopefully by Thursday!

If you are reading along (and I see I have some viewers) please feel free to leave a "hello" or a message or two. It is great to know folks are out there reading along. Would love to hear what you think and love to answer questions or help folks along. Thanks!

OK, back to our regularly scheduled program. When I last left you, the boys were headed to Everything POP to grab a bite, and I was off to catch a bus for an evening of solo touring! :cool1: FYI the boys, once again, had a wonderous meal of cheese pizza and chocolate chip cookies. ;) $12.34-they shared the pizza.

I had just myself and my camera! How awesome is that? Walked through the "Guests without Bags" security check for the first time EVER!!! I headed into the MK for EMH enjoyment!
I was a little hungry myself and headed into Casey's for some corn dog nuggets and a diet coke and went outside to relax and munch. They were a little overcooked (and I actually asked for a different batch but the CM said they were "supposed to be that way" :sad2:), but I finished them up and moved on.

My only goal was to see Wishes and the Castle Show (which was not being shown the last time I was there-they were between MM&Y and this new one at that time so there was no show). I figured if I sat for the parade, fine but I really wanted to head to NFL. I knew the boys would have ZERO interest in checking out the girlie spots.

I found a most AWESOME spot to watch the parade. (found out later that it was the AAA reserved seating area). :rolleyes1 I stood behind the folks sitting at the tables enjoying their ice cream/deserts and this was my view:

This concludes our viewing of Wishes. The masses began to depart. And suddenly this table in front of me was empty for relaxing and enjoying the surroundings and people watching. I had a lovely family standing behind me waiting for the second showing of the Castle Show, so I invited them to sit down at my table and enjoy. They were from New York and DVC owners there enjoying one of their 3 trips for the year. (How I would love to say that some day!) We had a wonderful conversation and stayed to watch the show again and visited until the parade was about to begin.

Here is another photo from the castle show. I missed this one and also figured out another way to share my photos without PB
