Can't decide if I should go back to the doctor or not.........

I went about 5 weeks ago because I had suddenly starting having to get up and go pee everynight (which I did not even have to do during either one of my pregnancies) plus having pain on the left side of my back. The doctor started with a urine test and said that I had a little blood in my urine so he did an x-ray. The doctor told me that the x-ray showed what looked to be either kidney stones or calcium deposits in my colon............which he stated he figured was probably kidney stones given my symptoms. No sign of white blood cells in my urine so he ruled out a bladder/kidney infection. He sent me for a CT scan.

A couple of days after the CT scan, his nurse called and told me the CT scan showed I am okay. I said, "Okay, but what about the blood in the urine and what was seen on the X-ray." She replied, "The CT scan shows you're okay, but call us if you continue to have pain.

Well.........I'm still having pain in my back (just the one side) and having to get up to pee most nights.

I can't decide if I should:
A)Go back to doctor
B)Switch doctors (I'm not crazy about this one. I inherited him when my old one retired and he took over the practice. A coworker of mine blames him for damage to her heart since he did not take her symptoms seriously).
C)Drink cranberry juice daily and pray that the symptoms go away.

WWYD? Anybody had anything similar?
Thanks,
Erin

I would call the dr and tell them you still have pain. Did they do a urine culture?

With those symptoms I would go back to the doctor.. (Or if you don't like that doctor, ask for a referral to a urologist..) The urge to unrinate so frequently - in addition to the backache - is something to be checked into further..

Good luck! :thumbsup2

First off, don't drink cranberry juice if you do have kidney stones, it can make them worse. The juice attracts calcium, from which many kidney stones are created. Having had my share of stones, I can tell you that while they are moving around, they can cause great pain, but if they are just sitting in your kidneys, you can't tell. The pain I always had was from back to front, then front only as the stones passed from my kidney to my bladder. Once there, no more pain. Water, and lots of it is the best thing, but if you live in a hard water area, tap water isn't good due to the high calcium levels.

If you were me, you would call the doctor and tell them you are having the same pains again and see if you can get in for another x ray or cat scan.

The last time I thought I was passing KS, I was really having appendicitis.

The thing that would tick me off...

In other words, "Never mind your pain, it's not caused by something we thought it might be." Sheesh, talk about not caring about the patient.

Good luck finding a doc that will listen to you and help you solve your problem.

Lemonade is what you are supposed to drink nowadays for kidney stones. Maybe you need to have a sonogram done?

Yeah, that's what I thought too. There's obviously a problem somewhere. I'd go to a different doctor (I'd get a copy of your x-ray and CT scan and take them with you). Good luck! :flower3:

I would do the same.

Hope you get some answers and get rid of that pain.:)
