Back from wonderful trip last week and...

I think he's probably making enough to split the rent with someone, but with mortgages and kids it's a different story. (for us, anyway) If I were single and still in school I would do it in a second.

I agree do it now while you are young and can afford to take a few risks. When you are married and a family that depends on you to make a living it isn t easy to do what makes you happy and put their future in jeopardy.

I can't speak for Disney, but I've worked in customer service/hospitality my entire life, from simple retail, to resort hotels around the country, and it's pretty common that the pay rate is rather low. That is unless you are entering into a management position, but if you have no experience or background, you would most likely be placed in an entry level position. I work in the AC casino industry, and those positions start at about $8.50/hr. I hadn't been to DW in over 12 years until this past Oct., and I noticed an increased number of CM's of retirement age, and more company's are hiring them becasue often they are looking for part time work to either supplement their retirement, or like my 72 yr. old dad, to get him out of the house, he got bored with retirement real fast. On top of that, they're hard workers too.

Actually, we did it. It didn't work out BUT not because of the job or because we didn't love Orlando...we did. It just wasn't the right time for us. My husband is an opera singer and his career hadn't taken off yet (it has now!). We had trouble selling our house here in NC, and we were going broke paying for two residences. Had we made the move just 2 years later, we would have been just fine. This was in 2000. I had a contact in Advertising - now called Yellow Shoes Creative. It's Disney's in-house advertising department. We did local advertising, park brochures, resort brochures, vacation planning videos, and disneyworld.com. I loved the job! It was a very difficult decision for us to move back, but like I said, it was all about the timing. We've considered going back but now I'm also self-employed and my business here in NC is going really well. One day, I suspect we'll go back.

I was a salaried employee - so that was good. The pay was okay - equivalent to NC salaries. Nothing outstanding, but not bad. Orlando is a wonderful place to live and in my experience Disney treated me just as well as CM as when I was a guest. I can't think of one negative thing to say about my experience there. Except it didn't work out. However, things turn out for the best.
