A little background we are a family of 6. DH, myself, DS 17, DS 14, DD 2, and DD 6 months. When I booked, I was concerned about the size of our party fitting in this room, which we legally did. We are DVC members and generally spend most of our vacations in 2 bedroom villas. Last year we stayed at the BC on concierge level and the room felt like a closet. We don't like to spend more than 1 weekends worth of points per trip and we enjoy visiting old favorites so we always stay at a different resort the first weekend. We had not stayed at the Poly since 1999. We checked into the Poly at 0730 on May 31st for 3 nights in a GV room. We were shocked when we found out our room was ready. WOOHOO!!! Off we go to Tokeleu (?). The view was not great but we had drove all night and didn't care. The room was quite spacious, we all loved the new decor. Such an improvement over the previous. The pool area is fabulous, still a little bummed they didn't add hot tubs but oh well. We all enjoyed this resort, so much so we have decided to make it a tradition. We will always start or end our vacations at the Poly. We really enjoyed Ohanas, Kona not as much as previous visits, Capt Cooks was okay. I must admit if I stayed there for longer I would tire of it quickly but its nice that they have a counter service option. All in all great stay!!!!
Now onto the BCV's. We prechecked at 0530 for 10 nights in a 2 bedroom. Yes, you read that right. I couldn't sleep so I hopped in the suburban and prechecked while the family slept. Didn't help, room was ready at 3:45. The positives, great location, the resort and the room. We had a great view of Illuminations every night and I could hear the music. Seriously, with the back path we left our rooma nd would be at the International gateway in < 6 minutes and we had a double stroller and a 2 yr old that wanted to walk. The pool area is just wonderful, love the sand area for little ones and I love that you can ride down the slide in the kiddie pool with your toddler.
Things that bothered our group enough that we probably will not stay there again for some time. Nice but clueless frontdesk staff. DVC has been there long enough that they should be familiar with the system. We had issues with the housekeepng schedule, we have been in DVC for 8 years I know how it works alot of their employees don't. I will add the housekeeping supervisor was wonderful. What burned my cookies was when I called the front desk to inquire about our full cleaning I was told it should ahve been done the previous day, I explained it had not and was told and I quote "theres nothing I can do about it now". Wrong answer. Wrong attitude and tone I might add. I had to make 2 trips to the front desk regarding other issues that should have been taken care of at checkin. I inquired at checkin if I had a balance, I had given my dc info long before arrival and assumed they would charge me. But I checked when I checked in if there was a balance, no I was told. Well yes there was so I found out the next day. Back to the front desk. taken care of. Next day another call and so on. I finally called my bank to verify what I had paid for and got a front desk manager and finished up, 3 trips to the front deskand 2 hours of my time later.
We ate at the resort rarely. We used the Grill at the pool once, it is what you expect. I am sad to say Beaches and Cream has gone done is quality, it will be an ice cream stop only for our group in the future. A note on that as of several months ago you can no longer order the Mudslides or No Way Jose from the takeout window. You have to dine inside for those.
To me so much of my enjoyment is service and I felt this place needs some improvement. We probably won't be back for some time if at all.
