Got back on Sunday June 23 after a WONDERful cruise and an eight day stay at WDW!! The cruise was great and I can't wait to do the 7 day September 6, 2003 with just DH. My cast of characters included myself, DH, DS age 17, and DS's ages 14 and 10.
Got in from our flight to Orlando from Boston at 9:30 am. went immediately to the DCL buses and boarded. No need to retrieve our luggage as DCL gets them and transports all the luggage except whatever carry-ons we had. I never saw our luggage once we left Boston, until it was placed in front of our cabin at 2PM! Very convenient. The bus ride was comfortable. The kids were VERY excited, as this was our first cruise. We arrived at Port Canaveral at 10:30 AM and we were awestruck at the beauty of the ship. Upon entering the terminal, we were immediately recognized by one of the DIS board people I had met on line! We embarked at 12:15 (easy) and went to the Parrot Cay buffet. The shrimp was great, and there was something for everyone! We then went to our cabin, #8553, a family suite, which was larger than expected. The cabinet drawer was being repaired, so we just dropped off our day packs, the girls changed into bathing suits, and DH and DS went off to explore the ship. I went up to deck 9 with the girls to watch them swim, and to have one of those neat looking drinks (non alcoholic). The Bon voyage party when the ship was sailing was so much fun! My younger DD and I danced and had fun with the characters, taking many pictures. Afer that, we went to our cabin to get ready for dinner. We had first seating which was fine for us, though it made for some rushing around on Nassau day to get to dinner on time. Our rotation was TAP. We were hoping for a table of five for just our family, but we were placed with a family of three, with a 12 yo DD, and it worked out just great.
Just before we left for dinner, my DH surprised me with reservations at Palo for Saturday! I hadn't planned on doing the ressie rush as it was only a three day cruise, and I wanted to eat in all three dining rooms, but this was a most pleasant surprise! Apparently he WAS paying attention when I was on the boards!
The food at Tritons was very good. The cambert fritter and shrimp medley was good. The beef tenderloin was good, and the duck was "memorable" acording to my DS! For dessert we had both the souffle and Creme brule, but the souffle was the best. The older children went off with their friends after dinner (the teens really didn't do much with the organized activities for their age group, but prefered to venture out on their own), and the 10yo went into the club for a few hours. She enjoyed the activites, especially since she had someone to go with that she met through the DIS boards and had been e-mailing for several months before the trip. DH and I went to the Hercules show, which was very entertaining. We then wandered around the ship, but returned shortly after to the cabin after getting the youngest one from the club. The other two children returned sometime after midnight, but I had fallen asleep. By the way, I brought Bonine, Dramamine, sea bands, patches, forgot to even open them, never needed them! Part 2 later
