Stayed for 10 nights, split 5/5 between the Beach Club and the Polynesian. I LOVED both places, but also found some negative things about both. I say them not to be nit-picky - but rather for anyone considering staying at either. Something I didn't like may be something someone else enjoys! :)

Beach Club: We received a FABULOUS upgrade. We paid for a standard view room. We got what I believe to be water view, because we saw some water! :) We had a lovely view of Crescent Lake and the Yacht/Beach Club dock for the Epcot/MGM Friendship launch. We also had a wet bar, and a king bed. The room was very spacious, and very pretty. Our bellman said it had just been refurbished. :) We got ALL of our requests. A full balcony with a garden view close to Epcot. We were in room 4573.

What I liked: EVERYTHING was in the same building. It was nice staying in the AC to go get food, or just to walk around. Our room was INCREDIBLY close to the International Gateway. THAT was truly the best part!!!!! All of the cast members we encountered were helpful and nice. The valet staff was a little TOO helpful, but it was very much appreciated. Every time we pulled up to the port cochere, a valet person was there asking if we needed to unload our luggage, or if they wanted to take the car. Eventually, I just decided to drop Lisa off outside of the covered part. :) It really was no big deal. Housekeeping!!! :) We didn't get towel animals, but Rosita left us TRUCKLOADS of those fun free toiletries! :)

What I didn't like: Stormalong Bay. I was SO disappointed. I had high hopes for it, but it was, in fact, just a pool. I can't for the life of me imagine why anyone would trek from another resort to use it. I also didn't like the layout of the hotel itself. It was really confusing trying to find your way around. All of the carpets are exactly the same in the hallways, and the signs they had blended in a little too well, so I frequently missed them. I HATED the refillable mug program. I actually couldn't find the darn things at first! I thought they'd be in the room, waiting to be unwrapped, but they weren't, so I went to the gift shop. The gift shop sent me to the front desk. The front desk sent me to Beaches 'n Cream who finally had them. There was ALWAYS a line at the to go counter at Beaches n' Cream at night, when Hurricane Hanna's was closed. I didn't like that there was no self-serve beverage machine.

Would I stay here again? IN A HEART BEAT!!!!! The negatives really didn't bother me much when compared with what we liked. We don't feel a need to try the Yacht Club. We know it's a different atmosphere, but it shares the pool, and most of the restaurants.

The Polynesian: We ended up in Tokelau. We got all of our requests: a balcony without a parking lot view. We were very happy with it! We were not, however, at all impressed with the front desk staff. Nancy stood there sorting leis. She saw us and continued to sort. She waited a minute or two and THEN asked us to come over. She was very curt, and somewhat rude. We didn't get a welcome packet, or a map of the resort - nothing. It sounds trivial, but I really did have to search for our building. I've seen maps before, but I needed one there, because I was a little lost. We were in room 3940.

What we liked: The room itself. HUGE. We loved having all of that space. The bathroom was nice as well...very spacious, and lots of marble. :)

We liked...no, actually, we LOVED the restaurants - er, restaurant. ;) 'Ohana was one of the best meals we ate during our 10 nights, but more on that on the restaurants board! :) I LOVED my Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe, but Lisa wasn't too impressed. So it's MY review, not Lisa's, so I'll say I LOVED the restaurants!! Both of 'em! :)

BEING ON THE MONORAIL! 'Nuf said.

The landscaping, and overall atmosphere at the Polynesian.

The refillable mug program, and captain cook's in general. SO much easier having a quick-bite eatery like that with a self-serve soda fountain.

What we didn't like:

The whole longhouse concept. We much prefer being in one building - without having to go outside to get food, or go to the front desk for something.

A lot of the staff. I'd read Tikiman's website about how wonderful the Polynesian staff was. And there were some WONDERFUL people. Shirley at the Polynesian Princess who got our deliveries for us each day, and Jane at Capt. Cook's, and our servers at the restaurants - but the front desk staff, like I said earlier, was not accomodating at all. Lisa spent a night itching and woke up with bug bites, and we got a problem when we asked housekeeping for the sheets to be changed.

Those dang toilets!!!! I thought they'd suck me in each time we flushed!!! :)

Overall, we LOVED the Polynesian. We would DEFINITELY stay here again.

We were incredibly pleased overall with our first Disney Resort experiences.

I am amazed that you felt Stormalong Bay was "just a pool". The quiet pool is "just a pool", but I can't imagine anyone discribing Stormlong Bay that way - if nothing else, just the shape. Well, everyone has their own opinion. Glad you had a good trip, though.

Yeah, it's free form, and yeah, there's sand at the bottom, but...I don't know how else to describe it. Other than...it's just a pool. ;)

It absolutely did not detract from our experience though.

So which one would you stay at again first? ;) We are also splitting our May stay between BC and Poly. I loved reading your report. Thanks for the opinions.

If I HAD to pick between the two, I'd stay at the Beach Club before the Polynesian. ;)

Thanks for the honest trip report SnackyStacky. I to am very glad you had a good trip and would return to both resorts. I can understand your comments on SAB... sometimes we tend to talk about the place like it's a water park and it's "NOT". The pool is unique for sure but it is a resort pool.

I am a little surprised about the Polynesian though and the front desk staff being less that helpful. Although I have never experienced a problem with the staff myself, I have heard about problems from time to time. It's too bad you had a problem but I'm sure glad you didn't let the problems get in the way of a great vacation.. to many people dwell on a few problems to the point of taking a great vacation and turning it into a complete mess.

Welcome home and again thanks for the report!

Thanks for posting, Danny! Sounds like you had a wonderful stay, and a great honeymoon!

I also did the split stay between the Poly and Beach Club last year--loved them both.

Thanks for the review and welcome home. :)

You did have a Water View room at the BC, at least according to my BC map. How great to have an upgrade! :Pinkbounc I have to agree about Stormalong Bay. It is a neat pool but maybe I've been spoiled with some of the "water parks" I've seen during our stays in Hawaii. LOL We like Stormalong Bay but choose the BC for location and theming more than anything. Plus, whenever we've stayed there it was always so crowded at SAB that we could barely find chairs. So, we usually end up at the quiet pool anyway.

Thanks again for your review! :)

Great Report - I like an objective report.
We, also, had less than stellar CM's at the Poly - not what I'd been expecting based on the boards....

BC is my favorite resort, so I'm glad you liked it. We never bother with the refillable mug program there anymore, it's not set up very conveinently at all.

BTW - I've been meaning to tell you I love your BT Avatar - we are BT owners outside of Rochester. Neighbor!

YC (really the same as BC except for decor) and Poly are the two deluxes we've stayed at, and I also would go with YC over Poly. Like you, we like being all in one building. I bought a refillable mug our first or second trip to YC and wouldn't again either. Although I don't think Stormalong Bay is a waterpark, we do like it a lot better than the Poly's. The kids like the big slide and I like that it has multiple hot tubs. We also have always had housekeepers that left many, many bottles of shampoo and lotion.

Although we've had great service at both resorts, we had one little thing missing at the Poly -- we were not given leis! It's been five years, and I still feel wronged.

Glad you had a nice time :D I also just returned from the Yacht club. I have to disagree about the pool though. I thought it was awesome. I am probably easily amused though. :sunny: I also have a 1.5 year old daughter that would play forever in the sand and the water slide so that mommy could lay in the sun so I am sure that helps with my impression of the pool! I also had a view of the boardwalk but paid for a standard room. The Yacht club rooms all have a balcony which we totally loved. Nice place to sit outside and have some wine when the little one goes to sleep. I had a wonderful time too. :teeth:

Welcome Back! I think we were at the Poly the same time you were. What did Nancy look like? The CM who checked us in also seemed fascinated by the leis. We didn't have to wait more than 30 seconds for her though. We did receive our welcome packets and she even parted with two leis for us. She was nice enough (kind of forced if you know what I mean), but I did comment to my DH that it wouldn't take much for her to turn nasty. The rest of the CMs made up for her though, because I forgot all about her until I read your post. Glad you had a nice stay at both places!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who wasn't blown away by SAB. We stayed at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes for 5 days before heading to BC & that may be tainting my opinion - the JW's pool is just so incredibly landscaped - makes SAB look run down.

And, I thought the sandy bottom of SAB sounded like a really neat concept, but in effect it looks kind of trashy - like they forgot to clean the pool or something. My DS3 did love playing on the "beach" though!

Dan, did you have a horrible time w/ buses at BC? We were there the 15th-22nd and had to wait an hour each time we went to MK & AK. Ridiculous!!!!

Glad your trip worked out, I remember the days leading up to it, watching weather wise and I'm glad it was okay!

Lisa spent a night itching and woke up with bug bites, and we got a problem when we asked housekeeping for the sheets to be changed

Good grief! Bites she didn't have when you went to bed? I'd have been asking for a lot more than fresh sheets! :earseek:

I'm intregued now by the idea of an Epcot resort...never done one before but I think maybe, maybe next year! Being near the International Gateway is VERY appealing.

Thanks for your reports! Enjoying them all on their various forums.

I really can't comment on the bus situation, because we rented a car. For reasons that you stated, I much prefer to have my OWN transportation. :) Even if the busses are great 99% of the time, there's still that 1% off time. And it's too hot to be standing in line some more waiting for a bus.

Absolutely try an Epcot resort!!! We LOVED the whole atmosphere. I'd highly reccomend the Beach Club, just because at it's furthest end, you're RIGHT next to the walkway which would about a 1-2 minute walk to the turnstiles.

Just had to say Bostons are the best! The Avatar is our Boston Lucy :) Do you breed them?

Guess what Snacky Stacky - we stayed in 3940 back in July. Great view and a wonderful location. You've actually lived my dream and I'm filled with jealousy. Before staying at the Poly, the Yacht and Beach were our favorite resorts. Then we tried the Poly and fell in love with it. However, we still like the YC/BC. So, you've lived my dream by staying at both in one trip. I hope that I can do that next year.

Sorry to hear you didn't like SAB - we LOVE it. In fact, we miss it although we do like the Volcano Pool. We like the Epcot Resort Area as well as the MK area so splitting the stay is an excellent idea.

I must do it - you've inspired me.

Hi Lisa -
No, we're not breeders, although we are quite tempted to have a whole herd of Bostons. They really are the best dogs ever, aren't they?
Rupert is our second BT. We had a little Darling named Newman, but lost him last year to Brain Cancer.

Lucy is a Doll! Do you breed?

Congrats on your marriage & new life together! Your Honeymoon sounded Heavenly!
