Back from SSR. Here's my short review!

We loved SSR. I was hesitant at first b/c of the reviews I have read here (some) and on allearsnet, but I'm convinced now that some people just can't be happy with everything.

We checked in and got 3 welcome homes. Normally I wouldn't care about a welcome home, but I know some people here like that, so I'm posting it, lol !

Check in was very smooth. Got room 2425. Downtown Disney view and a quiet pool view. Very nice. It's on the top floor of the Congress Park (?) building, close to elevator. Couldn't have asked for a better room. This was a one bedroom, non smoking room. (Neighbors in the studio next to us smoked on balcony though which led to us getting ashes on our balcony one day.)

Other silly and not so silly observations:

Room numbers. Our room was on the 4th floor, yet was room 2425. I've never seen a hotel that lists the floor # as the second digit.

Elevators - HOT. Need AC in there. I realize they are outdoor elevators, but geez. I would hate for that thing to break down. It was so hot.

Did I mention it was hot this week?

Quiet pool is very nice. The music played there is really more like elevator music and drove me nuts while I tried to read books, lol.

The main pool is quite far away from the now open buildings. I was really shocked. It's near check in and when it's 95 degrees outside, I really don't like to walk that far to cool off. We used the bus to get from our building to the other bus stop, in front of the pool. Did this for 2 days then decided that we liked the quiet pool better.

The quiet pool is deeper, so you can actually swim in it. (My pedicure was getting ruined in the main pool since my feet always hit the bottom, lol.)

Bus transportation - EXCELLENT. The resort is empty, so the buses were empty pretty much. Had the bus to ourselves several times.

Boat transportation - used it once and that was that. Boat dock is very far from the now open buildings, so it was easier to take the bus to DD.

Got a knock on the door Friday mid- morning from a CM. Said that some people were complaining about the patio door locks and did we have trouble with them. (No trouble.) She put a sticker on the door instructing people how to lock and unlock the door. DH questioned her and she said that Michael Eisner noticed a problem with it and wanted the stickers for the doors. Not sure why a knock on the door was necessary for this lock sticker, but it wasn't a big deal. Should have had housekeeping deal with it next time they were in our room.

I would def. stay there again although I did miss BCV (my home) for the pool.

Not sure if I would go out of my way to stay at SSR when it's completely open though. It's a huge resort.

:)

Glad to hear that you liked SSR overall. I agree, some people can never be pleased. I think the resort is beautiful. I cannot wait to see it completed and the construction finished.

I am sure it was hot. It was already really hot when we were there the first week of this month. For once I am glad I am not going to WDW during the summer months. I can wait for Fall for my next trip.

I don't think this is uncommom for timeshare or hotels that have multiple buildings. If I recall correctly, the Hyatt on 192 (closed now) did the same thing. Marriott's Grande Ocean uses the first number as a resort qualifier, the second number as the building number, third as floor and fourth as unit. Of course GO has only 10 buildings.

Nice report. Glad to hear a positive report on SSR. Sounds like your stay was wonderful. The elevators with no A/C makes me wonder what they were thinking. Hopefully they will correct this problem. What view of DD did you have?

It was so nice to read a positive report. Thanks for taking the time to tell us about your trip! :wave2:

Thanks for the report. Glad you had a good time. Susan

What view of DD did you have?

Our room looked right out onto the "pineapple" as my dd calls it at DD. You could see PI a little bit towards the right (we could see the fireworks at night with no problem). Could also see the Lego dragon in the water to the left (if you really looked left though, lol).

I'm not exactly sure of the numbering scheme for SSR, but the second digit is not the floor number.
In the first building opened, the first floor is 25nn, the second floor is 26nn, the third floor is 27nn, and the fourth floor is 28nn.
Apparently, in the second building opened, the 1st thru 4th floors are 21nn, 22nn, 23nn, and 24nn.

WebmasterDoc explained this in another post, but I'm too lazy to look for it.

The buildings are in pairs. The first has 1-4 as the second digit...signifying the floor. The second building uses 5-8 (5=1, 6=2, etc.) for the floor numbering.

Somehow I'm trying to picture Micheal Eisner checking the sliding glass doors... I can't see it! LOL

Thanks for the report. Glad everything went well! :)

Thanks for the report! Glad the busses are working well!

Thank you for sharing your trip with us! I can understand why housekeeping knocked on your door & asked about the doors. If you were having trouble, then a CM would have helped you.

I never knew any elevators had a/c . Most are just cooled by natural air flow.
