Just wanted to say thank you to the member who recommended the Townhouse at Emerald Island for us, we managed a stay there in March and April, 2 separate visits and the place was terrific, and for $500 per week a great price. Emerald Island was the bomb ! Thanks again.

It is wonderful that you had 2 great vacations.

Spread the word it is the best free advertising and us owners can't pay enough for that.

Maria,

I stayed at www.orlando-rental-home.com its a 3 bedroom Townhouse right next to the clubhouse and pool in Emerald Island resort, I stayed there after a recommendation from a member on here and am so glad I did :goodvibes

It was easy to book the owners are lovely and a really nice price

We just loved Emerald Island both times we stayed there. Glad you had a great trip!

Hazel,

I am pleased you enjoyed your stay, I have stayed at the very same house a number of times and it is perfect. I think it was me who recommended it to you.

Did you have to take your trash to the dumster yourself? We stayed in an EI townhome in the separate section - not by the clubhouse, and disliked the trash/dumpster situation so much that we've crossed the EI townhomes off our list for future trips. I wondered if it was a different setup for the townhomes near the clubhouse.

Eh yes! What else would you expect ? would you need someone to do it for you ?

They are in a MUCH nicer situation but if a 30 second drive by to drop off your trash on the way out bothers you then yes it is the same set up so I would leave it crossed off :-)) Sounds like you need a hotel :-))

Can't say I felt the rubbish was a problem at all, we just put a bag in the car every couple days and dropped it off on the way out.

I do agree however that the homes by the clubhouse where we stayed are in a much nicer setting, its idylic there.

Wow - I've been on the DIS 7 years now, and just now feel attacked. :confused3

Thanks Hazel for conveying the same information in a much nicer way. :hippie:

I expected something like at Windsor Palms or Windsor Hills where there are benches with storage inside sitting outside each condo or townhome and you just bag your trash and place it inside. I have stayed in rental condos/townhomes/villas many times and have no trouble with being self catering, but I don't have to take my trash to a dumster at home, and it's certainly not something I want to do on vacation. Part of it may have been that we had 7 people in our townhome for a 2 1/2 week vacation, so we generated quite a bit of trash, and had to head to the dumster at least every other day.

We had a horrible experiences with the dumster & trash at EI over last XMAS! To start with, the prior guests or housecleaning had left trashbags by the curb. Well, within a day animals got to them, so we had to walk through trash spread all over the grass each day going to & from our car. Several days later, the lawnmowing company came by, and we're guessing they picked it up so they could mow. DH actually started to pick it up and bag it himself to get rid of it, but it was too nasty, and we just couldn't stand picking up someone else's trash on our vacation.

The dumster area was also blocked by huge piles of mulch and landscaping company trucks for several days. So, there would be a line of cars waiting to get to the dumster, and at times we had to park down the street and walk quite a ways with the trash to the dumstser.

Also, apparently many people aren't intelligent enough to figure out how to open the dumster or maybe they just don't want to touch a dirty, disgusting dumster (can't really blame them) and would just pile their trash around or on top. Many times, DH had to move other trash to open the dumster to put ours in. And of course this meant we had to load the trash bags into the back of our own personal vehicle and drop it off on the way to the parks. Who wants to head to the park after handling a dumpster! We kept wet-wipes for cleaning, but that's really just gross!

About half the times we went to the dumster, there was someone in a security uniform with their vehicle parked right up by the dumster. They were sorting through the trash looking for "treasures". Don't know if this was EI security or if they were from somewhere else, but we had to wait for them to get out of the way before we could leave our trash.

I think I posted my concern about the trash handling with the EI townhomes even before our stay there, and unfortunately it was even worse than I expected. :sad2:

I don't need a hotel, but I'll have to stick with Windsor Hills or Windsor Palms or possibly the EI villas in the future, but I could not recommend EI townhomes to anyone I know because of the trash situation.

Hazelmum- Glad you had a good experience. We stayed in a 4 bedroom home in EI and had a great time last year. We are thinking of snowbirding this winter and a town home would be more that big enough for us. Does anybody know if the community pool is well heated in the winter months? TIA Grammy

Hazel - that looks like a very nice townhome! Glad you had a lovely stay!

Mareed - maybe look at a full home next time. If you shop around, they're not much more than the villas. You have a big trash can (usually in the garage) that you take to the curb once a week. less than 50 feet from the door to the curb - no stairs or anything. Easy as pie. And you can go back inside to wash your hands. (just remember to close the can tightly so the raccoons don't get into it! Yuck!)
I don't think the person was intending an attack - after all there were a lot of :) smiley faces. I took the point to be if you don't want to deal with trash at all, then choose a hotel because you'll have housekeeping to do it every day. Not that you were being judged for not wanting to deal with it. :)

We're staying in Emerald Island at The Diamond on the Island <owner's website> <vrbo website> in Sept/Oct. It’s a 6 bedroom - 5 1/2 bath home with a private pool and hot tub/spa. Four of the bedrooms are en suite - meaning the all have a PRIVATE bath - and all four of those bedrooms have king size beds! The other 2 rooms are Disney themed kid's rooms with 2 twin beds each (one Princess room and one Buzz room). They have a full size crib and a Pack N Play as well as a changing table and high chair available if you need those things for little ones. There is a desk in the loft area with internet access if you bring your laptop.

It’s located just a few minutes south of WDW and it’s really easy to get to and from the parks for a break if you have kids that need a nap.

It's a really nice home and the owner is very easy to work with.

(if you contact them, let them know 'Robin from Colorado' referred you - I don't get anything for it - it's just nice for them to know how you heard about them)

I may have been just having a sensitive moment. :goodvibes

I don't mind dealing with trash as far as taking it to the street in a trash can or putting it in the bench outside my door, but I will keep the EI townhomes on my "not to go back to" list because of the dumster. I also wanted to make others aware of it in case they might feel the same way. If I'd fully known what it was like there is no way we would have chosen to stay here, and I thought others might feel the same way and would like the information up front.

What I really think needs to happen for the benefit of the EI community is for them to have some sort of a trash pickup at the townhomes like Windsor Hils & Windsor Palms do with the storage bench outside each door.

I did like having the 4th bedroom in the townhome at EI where WP and WH only have 3! With 7 people on that trip, it kept us from having to use the fold-out sofabed.

I've been able to get townhomes for under $100 a night, and I don't think I can find the individual villas for anywhere close to that, but I would consider the EI villas if we're ever travelling with a larger group. We did like the look & feel of the main part of the resort from what we saw!
