We couldn't go to Castaway Cay, because of the winds. The Captain tried to dock, but was unsuccessful. Needless to say we were bummed. We had a day at sea instead. Has anyone else experienced this. I guess there is nothing you can do about it??

Everything else was great

In three cruises that hasn't yet happened to us -- I say "yet" because anything is possible. I'm so sorry this happened to you, though. Looks like you'll need to book another cruise...CC is well worth it!

I am sorry to hear that. Castaway Cay was a high-point on our first cruise. We cannot stop talking about it and look forward to going back.

I didn't really think about it before (our 1st cruise), but from what I understand, it (not being able to stop at CC) could happen at any time.

The winds canceled our Grand Caymen day last year in March. (Of course, all cruises were canceled, not just DCL.) I loved the extra day at sea, but DH and DD were really bummed as they were looking forward to doing the stingray snorkeling excursion.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing will be canceled when we sail in May.

There was a thread a few weeks ago posted by someone (sorry I can't remember who) who had gone through trip reports and other info to catalog how often the ships were unable to dock at CC. I don't recall the exact figures, but I believe that the ships are unable to dock there approximately 5 percent of the time.

We missed our very first time at Castaway Cay due to hurricane damage. We were able to get close to the island to drop off supplies but not dock. It was a beautiful day too.:(

We made up for it on the Member Cruise as that stopped at CC twice. So for 5 cruises we've been there 5 times!

If you cann't dock at CC,Key West, Grand Caymen or Cozemel and you prepaid for an excursion do you just lose your money or are you rembursed? Just wondered, my DS 14 has picked out several on our Nov 6,2004 trip.

You don't pay for the excursion until you settle your bill at the end of the cruise, so it's not money lost per se. But to answer your question, no, you are not charged for excursions booked through Disney if the ship is not able to visit that particular port.

We were lucky to have docked at CC last Friday, Feb 27th. Our server said that they almost aborted the docking because of the high winds and surf we were encountering across the deck pushing us directly towards the dock. It seemed to take a while to dock as the Captain hugged the bouy farthest from the dock while backing into position.

We had gale force winds on our way to the island and after we left.

All boat-type excursions were cancelled at CC for us. No parasailing, kayaking, banana boats, etc.
