Had a yen today so I went with it. Two buses later and I found myself in front of Zabar’s, a NYC institution for those who don’t feel like cooking, lol.
Bought some poached salmon with watercress and bundnerfleisch (German beef cold cut) then treated myself to a half loaf of dark German rye. Went over to the spice section and got a packet of dill seeds since I hope to make some water bath pickles this summer.
Next it was a stop at Murray’s for lox, sable and pickled herring in cream sauce. Decided it was easy enough to make the sides so skipped them and bought some sorrel soup instead. This is the only place I know that still sells sorrel soup or even fresh sorrel so it’s worth the money.
On my way back home picked up some gelato from the supermarket and later this evening there will be some currently undefined feast with some of the goodies.
