Back from amazing Alaska

The bus up was the right decision. The clouds hang low in the morning so the train ride down we were able to see more. Our picture of the Welcome to Alaska sign is hilarious. All you see is the sign. Surrounded by fog. It was truly an Alaskan day! It was so much clearer the closer we got to Emerald Lake.

The kiddos did the dogsled ride without us. Please know that this is a rolling cart - not an actual sled on the snow. The dogs were great. The dogs are definitely born to run and pull sleds. The puppies are in a large area so that you can go in and play with them. They were about 5-6 weeks old and just adorable!!! They also had the momma dog and some older dogs plus a golden retriever in the puppy area. You can buy 4 dog bones for a $1 to feed the dogs in this area. Your granddaughter and niece would love it!

Thanks! We do know it's a cart ride on a path - they WILL love the dogs and puppies! I will tell them about the dog bones!
Someone else posted to try and on sit right side of bus up and right side of train down - would you agree?

WE sat on right side of bus going up (2 of the kiddos were on the left side) and I don't think that really made a difference. The train ride DOWN, you should sit on the right side. Everyone got up from the left side and filled in the empty seats, stood or stood outside on the platform.

I contacted them via phone last summer because they did not post rates for that far in advance. They had no problem reserving my spot. I also wanted to make sure that we would get the 2 bedroom/2 bath unit. We did get that suite. It was two connecting apartments. We had two bedrooms, 2 sleeper sofas, 2 kitchens and two washer/dryer units, lol! The air conditioning units are only in the bedrooms but we never got hot at night in the other rooms because we had the fans circulating the air. We were also there in May so I don't know if this would be the case in July?

We were quoted $1,558 for those 4 days which was Canadian. It actually ended up being $1,244 American dollars.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oh ok, thank you. I figured it might be too early to get a rate online. Thx for the info. :)

Thanks for the mini trip report. I sent it to my DH because he would never have the patience to read through the extensive detailed ones. We both enjoyed reading it. One more month and we are on our way!

Yes, I appreciated this "trip report" much more than those long reports that go on for months. :)

As far as destinations, Alaska has been my absolute favorite. The beauty is truly breath taking and something to be experienced. To all those waiting to go on their cruises, have a great time!

It has been decades since I made that train trip but still remember being amazed by the physical trail worn into the mountain by the miners. That hasn't been mentioned and wonder if that is still observable from the current round trip train?

Glad you had a great time! Thanks for the review! I'm taking notes for our 2016 Alaskan cruise! We will definitely look into the Chilkoot tours--I'd love to do the rail/bus/dog cart. My youngest will be 12--which is still a child with the tour companies, but she's an adult for DCL tours--it'll definitely save us money to book stuff on our own!

There still is a trail in the side of the mountain. The Trail of 98. Pretty cool stuff!

Sounds like a great time! We did Alaska on our honeymoon (different cruise line), and I cannot wait to go back on DCL.

We love to cruise with Disney. Our kids are a bit older than the usual children's ages but we really enjoy the service and quality you get on DCL. We knew when we went to Alaska, it would be with Disney. No regrets at all!

Yeah, I greatly enjoyed it on NCL and am sure I will enjoy it just as much on DCL, if not even more. I just wish DCL would go to Glacier Bay; I have been to both Tracy Arm and Glacier Bay, and prefer GB of the two (though both are stunning.)

We are in that verandah room later in August! Glad to hear you loved the location

Also curious about noise from theatre?
