My husband and I (no kids) are just back from our 2nd cruise on the Wonder. So much has already been covered on these boards that Ill just comment on the more unique parts of our experience. I have the Navigators, movie lists, etc. so if you have questions just ask.
First off Ill say that the weather was fantastic! I thought it couldnt get any better than our Feb '01 3 day Wonder cruise, but this one topped it! Sunny, blue skies, calm seas and beautiful sunsets!!
We really enjoyed the food at the buffets both my husband and I eat lots of fruits and veggies and we found the selection great for breakfast and lunch. Lots of fresh fruits and salads that we enjoyed. The American buffet on Nassau day was a sight to behold very impressive! We ate at Palos and it was very good, but our server couldnt quite understand that we didnt want dessert (my husband is not a sweet eater and I try not to gain 10 pounds on the cruise!). Our experience there made it back to our server in Parrot Cay who also couldnt understand that we didnt want dessert!!
We took the banana boat ride on Castaway Cay. We got soaked almost immediately on the ride out and my eyes stung like crazy from a combination of salt water and my sun block. Not having anything dry to wipe my eyes, the ride was a bit uncomfortable my ears were tearing up pretty badly. The other lady on our boat seemed to be having the same problem. The ride back in was better less water in my face and the view of the ship was great. Id definitely do it again, but you might want to wear swim goggles!!
My husband and I had a couples massage in the Cabanas on Castaway Cay. We did this on our first Wonder cruise last year and loved it. Not so this time!! There were sand fleas or some other bugs biting both of us and our massage therapists. The entire experience was miserable. Neither of us said anything until we got done and then the therapists told us that the bugs have been bad for the past couple weeks. We could tell that they were distracted by the biting as well. In addition to the bug bites, the cost increased about $30 per couple from last year up from $120 to $150 per couple for 25 minutes (without tip). Without a doubt this was the most money weve paid for a bad experience in a long time. We reported it to guest services on the ship, suggesting that they might want to suspend these unless they get the bugs under control. If you have your heart set on a Cabana massage in the near future, you might want to rethink. Ours was at 2 PM so that may have made a difference not sure, but Im not willing to spend the money to risk it again.
Another spa experience I was about fifth in line for spa ressies on embarkation day. I wanted to surprise my husband with a massage on sea day. They were already booked up! My guess is that the concierge guests had taken all the massage appointments for the sea day not sure how else they would be booked so quickly! I was disappointed to miss out on this, but we certainly didnt let it ruin our cruise.
I also have to mention our stateroom host, Martell. He was fantastic!! From the minute we set foot in our room until we left he had a smile on his face and took great care of us. We got towel animals this time (and we dont have any kids!). Actually all of the stateroom hosts around our room were exceptionally friendly this trip! (Category 6 starboard side).
On the last day of the cruise (the day at sea) there were a couple things that we really enjoyed. The first was a Q&A with Captain Henry and the heads of HR, lodging and engineering. There were lots of questions and we found it very interesting. We learned that the Wonder is 96% successful in docking at Castaway Cay and a nautical mile is 1.15 times a landmile. OK, so Im not a sailor! Captain Henry has a great sense of humor and is a consumate politician. We went to Match Your Mate the last night and havent laughed so hard in awhile. The couples picked for this were a riot. It has adult humor and the host(ess) Tisa did a great job. I think this should be offered more than one night on the cruise.
Overall we had an excellent cruise it topped last year in many ways!! And once again it was over far too quickly!
Bon voyage to all upcoming cruisers!!
