Babysitter............spinoff question

How do you guys find good reliable trustworthy babysitters?

when my kids were younger and would go and play at a friend's house, it was easy to see how their older siblings played/reacted/treated my kids. If they were good, I would ask if they wanted to babysit. That was the best for us. We've also used the recommendation of friends, it was hit or miss. Actually had a college student once, never again, it was like she couldn't be bothered to interact with the kids. We paid good also.

We have gotten some of our best babysitters from nearby colleges. Some of the career offices even have an actual service that organizes everything. Other than that, word of mouth has always worked well for us. If we find someone we really like, we are happy to recommend them. And, most of the parents in the neighborhood do the same thing -- although there are some that find a great one and keep them all to themselves, lol!

I've used a variety of ways: Friend's kids, craigslist, and sittercity.com.

We use sitters a lot, and I've only had one turn out to be a not-great situation.

If you have a local college, nursing students make good sitters & they all have to be CORI checked to work in teh hospital. But college students come & go every few years, so hs kids might be a better idea. Neighbors are good too, because their mom & dad are a few houses down if they need anything.

Sometimes the day care workers or first year single teachers are interested. We also have run adds at the colleges.

My daughter went through a babysitting course at our church, and they keep a registry of those who have to share with church members.

The best baby sitter we had actually found us. He was a 14 year old Boy Scout who made up his own fliers and handed them out at Sunday School. He was trained in CPR and first aid and was great at playing games with our kids (although the one time we came home and found out they had a squirt gun fight in the house was a little disconcerting, but it was only water and everything dried out eventually).
