Ours is a story of ups and downs, highs and really, really lows. I'll try my best to remember it all, some of the time I wasn't sure if I was awake or in a dream sequence.
The week of our trip, DD-almost 1 got sick with a stomach virus. I believe this was on Tuesday morning. I was thrown up on several times so I figured I was doomed. I had already had 2 stomach viruses in the previous 6 weeks. I hoped that if I had to get it, I would get it right away. I began eating only white, bland type foods as I prefer throwing them up than, hmmm, like pizza or tacos.
The day of our travels arrived and no one else in the family had gotten it. I patted myself on the back for my excellent use of Lysol and hand sanitizer. I had defeated the germs in our home!
I tend to be somewhat germaphobic anyway. As we waited for our departure, I constantly cleaned everyone's hands and carried baby wipes around wiping off things we were sitting near. I didn't want to take a chance on the baby or us getting sick on this trip.
We (myself, DH, DS-11, DD-6 and DD-turning 1) flew out at 6:00pm last Thursday (11th) and arrived in Orlando on time around 8:00pm. Flight seemed to go very well, only about 1/2 full and DD-6 ears didn't get all "clugged" up at all. DD-almost 1 did have a bit of trouble sleeping in her car seat as she prefers to snuggle up on her little belly, but other than that, nothing to report here. Rounded up our luggage and rental van at Dollar and we were on our way. Woohoo!
The drive into WDW went as usual (this is our 13th trip, sound ominous yet?), except this time DH didn't go the wrong way even one time. Good job DH! Straight to the MK entrance and on to the Grand Floridian. Double woohoo!!
DH dropped us and our luggage at the curb, he refuses to pay for valet parking so he went to the back forty to park it himself.
Left the bags with the captain of the bells (or is it bell captain?) and went to check-in. No problems here either. It was about 9:15 so there was no line to wait in. Got the building we requested and a first floor room as well. The person who actually takes the luggage to your room, I believe you call them the bell boy, but I could be wrong, said to meet him right out back and he'd drive us to our room. We walked down the steps and he was waiting in a kind of stretch golf cart thingie. He pointed to our building, which was literally right in front of us, a stone's throw away, and said hop in. We told him we would just walk, but he kind of insisted so in we hopped.
As we were driving those 70 or 80 feet of pathway, the fireworks over Magic Kingdom were ending and just as we rounded the front of the main pool the grand finale went off right over our heads. Beautiful, magical, unbelievable, breathtaking. I had no idea they would be that close to us. We had stayed at the GF one other time for just a couple nights and they never had fireworks like that then. I thought right then that it might be the most magical moment of our whole trip. I was right.
After tipping the bell boy, the kids found the Pal Mickey
I had ordered ahead of time. He was waiting on the bench at the end of the bed. They're supposed to share him. They promise they will, but who gets him first Mom? Who gets him first Mom? Mama, who gets to hold him first? Can I hold him first? Enough of that already.
DD-6 is an ace helper. Couldn't ask for better. And it's a good thing because DH and DS-11 stink at helping. We put away what we could as fast as we could because it was getting past 10:00 and little DD-who'll be one in the morning needed to get to bed. I was so happy that it was a junior crib instead of a pack and play. I always bring her own bedding in the hopes that it will make her sleep better. She went right to sleep and so did we. Except DH, he's a late nighter. He went to get the groceries. (Did I mention there's no charge for mini-fridges at the GF? Woohoo again!) DD-6 sleeps with me, DS-11 gets the daybed that's no wider than a cot and DH somehow manages to get a whole bed to himself......... Must be nice.
Tomorrow - Up and at it, DD-will be one and she's having breakfast at Crystal Palace with Pooh bear! She just loves Pooh bear! It's going to be so great! Or is it?
