I am planning a baby shower for a friend. I haven't done this in awhile. This baby is very much a surprise. Her youngest child is 11 so she is completely starting over! Even though this is her 4th child, since her youngest is 11, I think she is entitled to a shower! I want to do some games / activities that are different. Not your typical baby shower games. I definitely will do the dirty diaper/candy bar one. Does anyone have any ideas to make it a fun shower? My friend does have a sense of humor so I am game for just about anything! Also, good ideas for game prizes? I know my Disboard friends can help me out!

My daughter had her baby shower in April - 1st baby - her friends had the theme brewing a baby since she is a coffee fanatic. I helped the girls since they all have little ones. Anyway, we passed on the dirty diaper/candy bar thing. since they didn't know what the baby would be - we had an autograph matt everyone signed in pink or blue based on what they thought the baby would be and also put their name on a pink or blue paper for a prize drawing. We also handed out craft sticks as they came in - didn't tell them why - once everyone got there we told them if someone heard them say the word "baby" they could take their stick away - we gave it about 30 minutes and the person that had taken control of the most craft sticks got a prize. We also had white oneies and had the ladies work as groups to decorate them. They were really cute. The onesies are all different sizes and everyone has asked for a picture when he is big enough to fit in the onesie they helped decorate. I think it is great you are having a shower for your friend. Yes indeed with an 11 year gap - it will sure come in handy! Good luck!

A game that was a hit is called "My Water Broke".

You can Google this, I'm sure there are variations. You get clear plastic cups and fill half way with water, add a little plastic baby like the kind you can get from a cake supply store or Party City, put one into each cup of water and freeze. When each guest arrives, hand them a frozen cup and during the party whomever's water/(ice) "breaks" first is the winner. You can determine what breaking is and what the exact rules are. Some guests put their's in the microwave, some used their hands to defrost it, etc. It was hilarious.

I also made edible pacifiers. Take 2 white Life Savers such as Wintergreen and use cookie icing to "glue" them in a T shape, then glue on a pink or blue Jelly Belly jelly bean in the top center of the T, so that it looks like a pacifier. You can Google these too to see a picture: "Baby shower Life Saver pacifiers". Put one on a pink or blue ribbon necklace that is around 18" long so that they can use it as needed while around their neck, and pass one necklace out to each guest.

We played a white powder game. You get baggies and label them with numbers. Fill them with different products that are white powder...baby powder, cornstarch, powder laundry detergent, powder dishwasher soap, etc.

Have the guests guess what is in each bag. One lady got almost all of them right, maybe missed on one!

Another fun one is to give everyone a pencil and a white paper plate. Have them put the paper plate on top of their heads and try to draw the guest of honor on the plate. Don't forget to "remind" them of her growing belly. Some of them are really funny and it's good for a laugh. You can decide if "most realistic" or "funniest" or something else gets a prize.

Two of my SILs went to Walmart and bought a lot of baby things... teethers, rattles, baby wash, lotion, blankets, wipes, sippy cups etc. (little cheapies, but necessities - I want to say the total was around $50 and they split the cost) The game was to guess what everything cost. It was funny to see the ideas of prices between the elder generation and moms with double digit kids and the new(er) moms. The winner got a little gift, and I got to keep the stuff they bought as a shower gift. I thought it was a really cool idea.

You could also always do something my friends did for another friend's wedding. They scoured over rag mags, Vogue, Newsweek, etc and cut out heads of famous people (young, old, celebrities, reality celebs) and put them on bride's bodies that they cut from bridal mags and mounted the cutouts on a piece of cardboard - maybe 3-4 per page. The guests had to identify the famous person - and again, most accurate received a prize. You could do something like that and put them on baby pics from magazines. It would be kind of funny! I think we had ~25 people to identify and sadly, during that game, I realized I didn't get out much... :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

BTW, howdy neighbor! I'm about 20 miles from you in the Hoosier state! :wave2:

One game I loved is a 'Purse Search'. We were all asked to grab our purses and then items were called. The first person to find the item held it up and got a point (or in our case a raffle ticket). The items were things like: pen, lipstick, gum, band-aids, nail polish, condom, panties, candy, reciept, ticket stub, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, tape measure, buisiness card, hair clip, asprin/pills, toothbrush/floss, postage stamp, bill, check book (not as common to carry about these days)....you get the idea!

I"ve done these at lots of parties. Bachelorette, showers etc. Always fun. One party gave the prize to the person with the most of something. Like lip products (you'll be amazed how many some women have on them!). Another was the person with the most business cards that weren't their own.

I hosted a baby shower for my girlfriend last year and we too played "The Price Is Right". It was a lot of fun and some people hadn't any idea how much things cost these days!

We also played Name That BABY Tune. I made a CD of songs with the word Baby in the title. I would play the intro or just a snippet of the song and they had to guess the song. I started with the 50s and worked up to more current songs.
Be my Baby - The Ronettes
Baby Love - The Supremes
Ooo Baby Baby - Smokey Robinson
Hey Baby - Bruce Channel
Dont Worry Baby - The Beach Boys
Drive My Car - The Beatles
Baby Now That I've Found you- The Foundations
Baby I Need Your Lovin - Johnny Rivers
Baby I love Your Way - Peter Frampton
I'm Your Baby Tonight - Whitney Houston
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice
Baby Got Back - Sir Mix A Lot
Hey Baby - No Doubt
Cant Get Enough of your Love Baby - Barry White

It was hilarious and everyone was at least able to guess a few.

HTH! :wizard:

These are all awesome ideas! Thank you everyone! If you think of anymore between now and October (shower is on October 24), PM me. Thanks again!

My husband's aunt did this for my shower. It was a lot of fun and not too cheesy for even those who are game adverse. I've now down it for 4 showers I have thrown. It is nice as a new mom to get a lot of those staple items, and it was lots of fun to play so it's a double hit.
