My brother's wife is having a baby in the spring and her mother and sister are throwing her a baby shower President's weekend. (Personally, I think that's really early and the shower is in RI, so it's very likely it could snow a great deal that weekend, making travel difficult.)
I received an invitation and would like to go but it would involve traveling about 5 hours. I emailed my mother to see if she was going - ie we could go together (not a thrilling prospect for me, but that's another story) My father sent a note saying THEY were not going because -gasp! - it would require a two night stay and it wasn't worth it for such a short amount of time.
So here are my questions:
Was I invited just aa a protocol thing - nobody really expects me to come?
Should the whole family go? I would like to call the mother and see if my 9 year old daughter could come to the shower too and the 'boys' could swim and hang out at the hotel.
My kids have a five day weekend and I thought it would be a nice getaway. Plus I don't really know my sister in laws family very well and I live in that romantic world where everyone should be one big happy family. I can't believe my parents aren't going and feel that SOMEONE from the father's side should attend. But maybe that's not really important?
