I need some help with a baby shower gift for a co-worker who is having her second child. She's having another daughter and she has tons of baby girl stuff already from her first daughter. What can I get her?:confused3 I've been trying to rack my brain for ideas and I don't have any? If you have an idea, please help me! I'd really appreciate it!:worship: Thanks!

Not sure how old her first child is so she might already have one of these, but I've given potty seats (new of course!) and filled the box it comes in with products for baby. So many new parents get so much stuff that's usable for only a short time -- I try to think ahead.:goodvibes:goodvibes

I have an almost 8 week old, so I can speak from current experience. Diapers, wipes and other diaper bag staples are what I'd want. We got so many blankets and things that we would up returning about half and we still have too many. WE used the money from the returns on diapers, wipes and formula. The other thing might be something personalized or personalizable. I think that first babies tend to get more of that kind of thing, and they get overlooked for second babies.

A bathtub. It was the only thing I didn't get, and I needed it the most. That and my Mommy Bear were my two most prized gifts.
How about:

gift cards to the grocery store, drug store, or restaurant.

I know I got enough baby shampoo that I honestly did not buy any until DD was 1! And yes, I bathed her. :lmao:

How about a lullaby CD? we got one called Brazilian Lullabies which was so differnt.

Books! You can't have too many and they are wonderful treasures that baby will enjoy for years. And if you get duplicates it is okay because Baby 2 can have her own for her own bookshelf. Pick out your favorites and write a little note to baby in each one about how you loved it and hope they do too.

I like to give personalized stuff if you know the name of the baby. With my first we got so much "keepsake" stuff and not hardly any for the 2nd child, so we cherish every little bit we got.

Consumables -- diapers, wipes, diaper rash creme... The things that are budget busters for the first couple of years for parents.

Also, is her 2nd child being born during the same season? If the seasons are different, then the clothes from the first baby won't work for the second baby -- at least for the first year. One baby could be summer and one winter.

Is your friend registered anywhere? If so, see what she signed up for.

Oh, one other great idea is a gift certficate to get photos taken. Someone gave me that when I had my 2nd child and I loved that gift.

If she lives nearby, how about a "certificate" for a supper to be delivered after the baby is born. Or how about a gift certificate from a restaurant that delivers? Life can be crazy with 2 children :scared1:

Diapers!! Definitely diapers.

BTW, I had to giggle at the PP's response about not getting bathtubs.. I got 4!!

Diapers and wipes - maybe get diapers in size 2 for later use. Also a homemade meal you can freeze for use after the baby is born. Crib sheets, bath towels & onesies (these tend to get washed alot with the first and show wear for the second, a fresh set is always nice).

The best thing I got were personalized coupons for last minute baby sitting. I can't tell you how many times things like a doctors appointment for the older one came up and I did not want to bring the baby etc. I even used one so I could take a shower once lol! I second gift certificates to restaurants that deliver

Does she have a baby registry? That's always good for ideas.

If you buy clothing, don't buy the newborn size. Most babies are grown out of that size within 2 or 3 weeks, and many things either don't get worn at all, or maybe once or twice. I like to buy clothing for gifts that will fit the baby in a few months, of course remembering to buy the proper season for that size. Receiving blankets are usually something that everyone gets too many of as well. I received a beautiful hand crocheted baby blanket recently though, and I'm thrilled with it.

Here's a personalized piggy bank I saw on the Walmart.com website recently, and I think it's simply adorable: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Personalized-Dragonfly-Piggy-Bank/5272998 I also like this personalized baby quilt as well: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7958507&findingMethod=rr

I love the idea that someone mentioned about gift cards to restaurants that deliver.

Three things come to mind:

personalized towel set (One Step Ahead and Lands End have VERY cute ones!)

Anything from Cloud B (they have the Sleep Sheep white noise machine, Lavender Lab aromatherapy doll, and those nightlights which send off stars - we have the "Twilight Turtle" for my DS and "Twilight Ladybug" for DS and they are SO lovely!

A favorite lullaby CD of ours that I have often given as baby gifts is "Globalullabies" by Freyda Epstein. Check it out on Amazon.

HTH.

How about a baby "health" basket. Baby tylenol, mylicon drops, diaper rash cream, neosporin, thermometer, baby wash, lotion, shampoo, wipes, ambesol, benadryl, nasal aspirator.

This used to be my go-to gift, but it can get expensive (I put a lot of the medications in). I never gave baby wash, because 4 of my kids had ezcema, and could never use it, same with lotion. With #4 and #5, I discovered these http://www.robeez.com/EN-US/default.htm Best things ever! They don't fall off, are adorable, and are soft enough to sleep in. These are now my go-to gift, especially for those who already have children.

My DIL's favorite baby gift, one that she stills talks about, was a big bottle of All Free and Clear laundry detergent and Bounce free and clear fabric softener sheets!

She recently gave a baby gift to a co-worker and this is what she gave, along with wipes and diapers.

I'm the big sister and I'm the little sister shirts. I think those are cute and the older DD would get something, too. I am assuming they are close in age, if she is in school or older she may not like it. I would also go with diapers and wipes. You can never have enough. I also like the idea of personalized things. They are something the child can have forever.
