I need ideas for what to give a friend for her baby shower. It is her first child and first grandchild on both sides - so they have been buying stuff here and there. We have been friends since Junior High- but I dont see her often - we just email.

I am getting her a over the door shoe holder and putting lotions, powders, and small odds and ends- But I still think I should get her something else but what?

I would also like cute, unique ways to wrap the gift- so that might help me narrow down what I buy.

Thanks for your help.

How about buying the baby a wagon and filling it with all the goodies you have gotten her? Thats what i did for one shower and it got big ohhhs and ahhhs.

that is a cute idea- that is the kind of inspiration I need-

Keep the ideas coming-please

I'm a firm believer in sticking to the registry. Those things take time to fill out and expectant mothers do it for a reason- because those are the things they need. They also do it to avoid ending up with 15 baby blankets and no onesies. I see it all the time.... poor 8 mo prego mom having to truck most of her gifts back to the exchange counter. A gift card is always good too in this situation. If you insist on doing your own thing, at least go online and check the registries to avoid as much duplication as possible.

No I will give something off the registry - I was just wanting to know what I could do this all the odds and ends - Creative wrapping

Or should I just go spend the $50 on the pack and play?

I always buy the bath tub off the registry then fill it will all kinds of necessities that it seems no one else buys. You could include all of the items you already purchased then add some PJs or onsies, or stick with bath theme and add towel/wash clothes. Below is a typical list for me...

PJs
onsies
bottles
pacifiers
wipes
hooded bath towels
wash clothes
burp clothes
bath sponge (really cheap and fills up the tub)
pacifiers
toy
baby wash/ shampoo
lotion

I remember who gave me the big items. The little stuff, nope. Not a clue.
I got a ton of the wash cloth, onesies, bath items from people that didn't know us that well. When I had my second my co-workers went together to get us a double stroller. (My first was only 21 months old.) That was the best gift ever!!

My standard gift is a cute backpack, chosen for the mom, filled with items that may be forgotten but useful, especially late at night. Things like Tylenol infant suspension drops, Pedialyte, a nose sucker bulb, A&D ointment, A&D zinc oxide (my kids and I hated the big name diaper creams, they had too much sticky fish oils that adhered to the skin and practically needed to be scraped off. Not what a crying babe with diaper rash needs), a thermometer, baby sahmpoo, nail clippers....just kinda wander the infant aisle and look. I'd also toss in a box of Epsom salts for the mom.

I check the register and see what is on it. I usually try to buy the smaller items and then fill it up in a basket or diaper bag. You really can't have enough lotions, mylcon, or rash cream. So I add that in also.

I love the wagon idea!!

I like putting stuff into something, if it's a boy you can buy a big Tonka Dump Truck and load it with lotions, wash cloths any small stuff on the registry. For a baby girl, a dress up trunk or baby doll bed can be loaded with goodies too.

I've gone with a laundry theme before and it was well received. I bought a cute hamper for the baby's room and filled it with Dreft, baby hangers, stain stick, etc.

I will add to the tub theme. My sis in laws mom got me my tub and actually made it look like there was a baby in it. Baby robe, etc etc..set up appropriately. She even did something for hair. It's been 5.5 years, so I can't remember exactly what it was...but it was great!! Had all bath time neccessities.
