Since it's a pretty common name now, I like Livie as a nickname. Three of my 5 go by nicknames (Kate, Jack, Charlie), one goes by her given because she likes it, the other can't be shortened.
It worked for me. No one ever tried to make a nickname for me out of Hadley. None of my kids' friends call them anyting other than their (difficult to make a nickname out of) names either.

AMEN!!!!!!!!! My DH is called Little R by his dad's side of the family and it drives me BONKERS. The man is 35 years old, 6'5" and weighs about 270. There is nothing "little" about him. Thank GOD I have a girl because a boy would have been the III (which I hate too, but what do you do when DH insists on a namesake) and I swear if anyone had nicknamed him Littlest R (or anything else) I may have gone apesh*t!
I think nicknames should occur naturally. Stick with Olivia Rose or just one of them until you get a feeling for her nature. Both the Olivias I know are called Olivia but I could understand any of the names suggested above.
I think Olivia is a lovely name and there is no way I'd shorten it....period. It's too pretty. It's not exactly torture to have to pronounce the name, is it? FWIW, I gave DD9 a name that cannot be "nicknamed" and it has worked. Her middle name was subject to a horrid nickname and that's why it's her MIDDLE name and not her first name.
I agree with a PP and wait until you see her personality and then decide if you want to call her by a nickname.
DD's name is Catherine and that is what she goes by. Some of ther friends call her Cat and some even try to call her Cathy or something else but only for fun.
my dd21 is Olivia Rose, we call her all of the names depending on the mood..liv,livvie, liver, and the kids next door call her via.some people at her work call her libby -but i really dont like that one..nor do i like liver but thats when were acting silly. i think its a great name but i might be prejudice
