baby formula and airport security?

... my aunt is a FA and she says they will give warm water and bottled water to mix formula.

They will if they have it. It's the having it that can be the problem. Most planes do not stock very much bottled/canned water, and if there is a runway wait it will not last very long at all. The water from the aircraft's general tanks is kind of borderline potable, and is not really advisable for anyone to drink, let alone infants.

Bring your own bottled water onto the plane, just in case. (It doesn't have to be official sealed bottled water, btw. You can just bring your own empty bottles through security and fill them at an airside water fountain if you like.)

I had not mixed mine in advance, so they made me throw away all bottles of water. This was at MCO returning from Disney within the past year. They said the policy was that it MUST be mixed before you have arrived at security. If I were you, I'd just expect to buy the water after you get through the security gate. There are a lot of places to get a couple bottles once you get through.

when we flew with our 6.5 mo old last year i brought 4 ready to feed bottles as well as a few packets of powder formula just in case of any emergencies/delays. i also had bottled water which i thought was ok because they were small bottles specifically for her bottles but TSA said it was a definitely no no and i would have to buy on the other side of security. it wasn't a huge deal because i really had plenty as long as we didn't run into major delays but i was embarrassed to have something that i wasn't supposed to.

i would also say i found it much easier to have the premixed formula on the plane rather than worrying about trying to dump the powder and the water and get it all mixed, etc. less mess for sure. :) (and that was the only time she ever used the premixed stuff - with the exception of when she was first born in the hospital!)

This past April I took a soft sided cooler FILLED with prepared bottles, juice, water bottles, the works. They took searched everything in the cooler, and did not have any problems with it at all. It is my understanding that the rules do not apply when traveling with a baby (for items that apply to them). I checked out the info on the jetblue site before traveling, and that is why I packed all of the stuff.

Yeah! No bottles for me this year!!!!!
