Baby care center not what I expected

Visited the MK temporary relocated baby care center this week. Can someone explain to me why the chairs at the baby care center are just plan wooden chairs with no arms? My 4 month old is bottle fed and trying to feed him sitting at a chair with no way to rest my arm and having just to set my bag and stuff on the floor seemed crazy to me. It was also chaotic and noisy (which is super distracting to my baby of course). Breastfeeding moms get a quiet private room, which I’m glad they get privacy but why isn’t there a quiet room with decent chairs for all feeding parents? And what about dads? Dads can’t feed baby? The lady yelled at 3 dads who came in looking to help mom and were told to leave because they had breastfeeding moms (they were all in private rooms) I’m happy there was an air conditioning place to feed my baby but the baby care center really seemed to offer nothing more than any indoor space with a chair.

When I looked at pictures online, it looks like the chairs were chosen to help people to feed kids in a high chair. Someone probably didn't think about bottle feeding. :confused3
yes they had some high chairs in there too. I bet that’s exactly the thought.

My husband has def used the baby care centers to change diapers many times. That is odd.

I agree it was odd! She let one dad in after some stern back and forth and the mom yelling from the diaper change room to let him back. I think the woman working was just not meant for the job. She seemed frazzled that there were lots of people coming and going and not very nice to anyone coming in.

I'm thinking that the temporary set up isn't optimal; it's definitely better in the permanent facilities, but the truth is, most people who bottle-feed don't go there to do it; they just use the benches out in the main park, or sit at tables in restaurant areas.

Not that I am saying "fib" but I would say that I needed a room for breastfeeding so that I got a better seat/room with no distractions then whip out that bottle! Or do you need to warm the bottle and such? I don't know how that works. It has been awhile (23 years) and I also breastfed so don't know what all goes into bottle feeding these days. I know my niece just had a baby in February and she said the current thought is to not warm bottles of formula so that the baby will take it as is and not expect warmed bottles? I don't know if that is just her and her pals being lazy or if this is really the new way to do it. Hope they work all of that out.

This really gets my goat. I understand that some people prefer privacy for breastfeeding for a variety of reasons, but to keep men intentionally out of a space because there is breastfeeding happening there, sexualizes the act and makes it harder to normalize breastfeeding (for those who are able and choose to do it). And what if a single dad or a gay couple wanted to feed their child in an air conditioned space? It's not a MOM center - it's a BABY care center. Centered on babies.

I'm also sorry that the chairs for bottle feeding stunk. All parents deserve relaxed and comfortable spaces to feed babies, regardless of method.

I also had no trouble with my husband in the baby care center, either just waiting for me to breastfeed or later, taking our child in to use the smaller potties when she was potty training (I hope those are still there!) This was back in 2015-2017 though! Sorry you had such an awful experience!!

Not sure on the potty’s. Didn’t hear anyone asking for those. I’m hoping part of the experience was due to the temporary space being constrained but I’m not sure.

Also, like, what about families with two dads?? Are they just not allowed to use the baby care center?
I really would love to know how she would have handled that. They should 100% be allowed to use the space as much as any woman.

Honestly, I think it was the CM. We are in the parks multiple times a month, always hit the baby centers at least once, and my DH is always with me. Except when I was in the nursing room, of course. And I often fed a bottle (we combo fed) and rocked him to sleep more than once in the nursing room without an issue.

That said... people raved about the baby care centers the whole time I was pregnant but I've never found them amazing or worth the trek across the park. If I'm near it, I'll stop by for a diaper change or feed but won't go out of my way.

Definitely could have been the CM. I also have never been in the other baby care centers so I don't know if this temporary location presents different challenges given size or layout constraints.

I never warmed formula or breastmilk bottles. I did a combo of BF and FF for my kids and they would drink out of the bottle regardless of temp. At Disneyland, specifically, I would bring bottles already filled with water and use formula packets to mix up formula at feeding time. The water would be whatever temp the air was that day.my kids never had a problem. Breastmilk would be brought frozen and when it was thawed out, they would drink it even if it was still ice cold. Babies don't drink fast enough to get brain freeze off bottles or anything. By the time they swallow the milk, it's warm.

Thanks! I honestly never understood heating the formula. I mean beast milk is at best lukewarm, I would assume. But ido get the distracted eating. Mine would be unable to nurse if there was anything better to watch/do! We called him the airplane. Sunlight and water...he seemed to thrive😂 now he is 23 and 6'5" and he eats 6 meals a day!😩
