Baby #19 for the Duggars born!

You know--I'm not sure their faith. I thought at one point it was mentioned that they may have ties to Southern Baptist. But I really don't know.

I think you're right, Lisa. Anyway, hope this new little girl survives, and hope that JB and Michelle find it within themselves to take care of her on their own, without the help of TLC. It's what they chose to do by having her.

(I have a problem with the life-long Southern Baptist who told me several years ago that Catholics weren't Christians. Neither were Lutherans.)

Thanks for your post, Lisa!

I find that statement hurtful. What about all these women who are struggling with infertility? They weren't meant to have kids? Were they meant to spend massive amounts of time and money and to be put in emotional turmoil in order to procreate? Please. :sad2: I think it was just the doctor trying to justify her choices.

Also, just because you can have babies, doesn't mean you have to keep having them indefinitely. I believe that nature has its limits and by adhering to that principle she sure keeps testing them.

I don't know why you find that statement hurtful. It is what it is. If someone is infertile, then they aren't meant to get pregnant. Technology has helped many women do just that though. But I don't see how sense someone is able to get pregnant easy, and the physician said as much, that it should be hurtful to those who can't. Not everyone is built the same. Just as not everyone has the same procreative ability. When Michelle's body isn't ready to carry anymore children, it won't. That's how nature's limits work.

YW!

There are some posts upthread somewhere of some interviews with the Duggars pre-Josie but date unknown. And it seems to me that they are open to modifying their quiverfull thoughts. It doesn't mean they will though.

I'm no "ultra-Christian" - not by a long shot! The whole "modesty" thing, Jim Bob using hair spray for his never-changing hair style, Michelle and the girls using bad perms, Michelle FINALLY getting rid of the front bubble-do, scripted responses and the family only filmed when the younger kids were "calm", ad infinitum. I really liked this family best when they were filmed in their old house, before TLC funding It was very real back then! They own some rental properties and a used-car lot? How do they pay for health insurance? TLC now supports this family financially, and has for some time!

Having said this, the Duggar kids are very well-spoken and articulate.

Having said this, I think they've tossed their "Christian" values away for $$$$$$$$$$$$$ money. (What Christian established religion do they belong to, anyway?) I have a real problem with some of the self-imposed "Christian churches/pastors down here. Lot of baloney!"

Don't think for a minute they'll end up like J&K (very predictable demise), but I don't think the Duggars will be on TLC much longer. Too expensive! If TLC signs Octomom, it's on its last $$$ legs.

Just my thoughts. Religious hypocrisy just ain't my thing!

I don't see how Jim Bob using hairspray is being a hypocrit :confused3

And TLC isn't "supporting" the family. They are getting paid to do a job. They allow the cameras to film them, and they get paid. If you think that is "supporting" them. Then you can say that your boss or company supports you. You aren't paid, you are supported.

Quiverfull? Self-proclaimed religion to serve your own purpose! Have as many kids as you can! My new religion is Tankfull. May my car always be filled with gas without having a dozen kids, and I can actually pay for it! Amen.

If you look at the older Duggar girls, they wear flip-flops and very short-sleeved tops. The long ugly skirts are just for show. (You KNOW they want to cut off a couple of feet!)

Quiverfull? Sorry. Total BS IMO.

Geez - for my 25 years of teaching, I was PAID monthly, per my district contract. Never a camera in my home or place of work! TLC has PAID the Duggar family for years - per their contract with TLC. Does "Quiverfill" allow for 3X/day use of hairspray? I know they allow as many babies to be born as possible. What does "Quiverfill" say about the use of hairspray and financial contracts with companies like TLC?

That movement is soley about children. It isn't a religion.

There are many folks who feel that these type of shows are "support". In reality it is a job just like anything else.

Quiverfull is mute on the subject of hairspray and television contracts.

And they aren't raising nuns, so no need for the full habit. ;)

The cameras only came at Baby 14 in about 2004. Prior to that, there was no TLC or Discovery Health in their lives. Since they've had kids over the course of 20 years, that's just a small fraction of their lives.

Also--once again, it isn't a religion but more a way of life. It is a cross-religion type of thing as many different faiths have folks who follow that. It's based on one scripture in the Bible.

The wikipedia article has some interesting opposing viewpoints that you might enjoy. I found them to be interesting as they referred to good stewardship in being anti-quiverfull.

Thanks, Lisa! I've always appreciated your posts. What, exactly, is the one scripture in the Bible that promotes having as many kids as you can and promoting "modesty"?? Good stewardship? Heck, I was called an anti-Christian just for saying that I'm a Lutheran by some (really ignorant) Southern Baptists! (Who didn't know squat about Christian history) I'm still really peeved about that! It's why I find these ultra-conservative "Christian" groups really distasteful! These self-proclaimed "pastors" show up at my door to invite me to "services" in some trailer...somewhere. Whatever happened to being officially ordained? Sorry for venting....

Still appreciate your posts!

The scripture quote....the bolded portion is how they came up with the name.

by the scripture, "Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their
enemies in the gate. Ps 127:3-5" (NAS) the quiverfull movement leads families to have as many children as God will bless them with.

The stewardship comment I made was in regards to some pastors being against the movement...along the lines of what someone mentioned earlier--that just b/c you can doesn't mean you should.

Evidently there are some blogs from former quiverfull followers. There were a couple of links in the wikipedia article.

Once again, I thank you! I'll look up the link. Do the Duggars even have an ordained Pastor? Probably not. I just have a real problem with people who use their own brand of religion to make money! We had to work hard for years, paid to our 400-year old church (which requires ordained Pastors), and never once considered subjecting ourselves (five kids) to make money on some stupid TV show! I'm still REALLY P***** about being called a "Non-Christian" by a couple of really stupid, arrogant, and ignorant Southern Baptwists. Two of my Catholic neighbors have had to deal with the same thing. Quote: "You're not a Christian because you worship two Gods". Grrr!

Lisa - you are great, and I thank you for your posts.

Hope I don't get banned!

It is to early to tell if the newest baby has any long term medical issues and I just wonder if they are prepared for a special needs child. Dealing with a baby requiring more of their time all the while they try to home school, and provide for the rest of the kids may prove to be more of a challenge for them.

"Meant to" sometimes has other meanings that we are not supposed to fully discuss here anymore. Let's just say it is like telling someone that there is some higher power or fate or something along those lines that leads them to the position they are.

Not everyone is built the same, true, but it's also been proven that infertility can be caused by enviromental factors, lifestyle and some unknown factors, too. Since a good percentage of the people struggling with infertility can eventually have children through IVF then in the end can't we say that they were "meant to" have these kids? I don't know. It just seemed a very broad statement and sounded as a justification to me, that's all.

I guess I just reacted to that statement and now it has lead me this long analysis! :flower3:

I hope you know that most Southern Baptists are not that way at all. I have met ignorant people of all religions and I try to remember that that PERSON is ignorant, not the religion. I grew up in a SB church, where many of the congregation were very superficial and racist. Fast forward 20years and I found a great church, also SB, that welcomed my interracial family into their fold. We have people from all religions who come to out church and there is no judging, just love and sharing of God's word. My feeling is that there is only one being who is worthy to judge and it sure ain't me!:goodvibes

Why would someone have to be officially ordained, and who cares where they meet. I'm pretty sure that the early church didn't worry about either. You sound as judgmental as those you are complaining about.

Lisa, nice posts.

I was thinking the same thing. Who says someone needs to be ordained?

Not sure. Given where 1957 is coming from, it is easy to see where he/she and I (given where I'm coming from) put great emphasis on something like seminary. All the pastors I have known personally from Christian denominations did go to seminary, or got their college degree in some kind of Bible study.

I don't know if there is a formal process in other denominations. I do know that all the pastors I have known typically went to school for it somewhere along the way versus just one day picking up a Bible and calling themselves a pastor or minister.

But I could see how 1957's concern would be over what someone who calls themself a pastor has in way of qualifications. I have never been clear if Mr. Duggar is one or not.

Hmm ... I thought they practiced their own brand of Christianity with things borrowed from a number of conservative sects in what is called a "Home Church". They have designated their house as their church so it is tax exempt.

Has that ever been proven? I've seen it mentioned on the DIS, and in various blogs online when I google it, but never anything solid.

I submitted the question to Snopes. :confused3
