Hi everyone. I have not been working b/c the family is on approx 3 week vacation. She had interviewed for a few new positions, but I have not heard if anything became of them.

I contend there are some people that deserve violent beatings with a wet noodle!

But then again, that would be my perfect world scenario and it would make as much since as Wonderland...

kwitch, I have a question for you. Someone told me that photographers no longer turn their cameras the portrait way and only take pics in landscape (not turning the camera) I didn't say that well, but I think you know what I mean. They basically said it is now wrong to turn your camera when shooting and if you want the pic to appear 'portrait' you change the look on the computer. Is this correct?

No. Absolutely not.

The new fad in photography is trying to purposely break traditional rules of portraiture - odd cropping of features, keeping the camera horizontal, forced placement on one side with lots of negative space on the other, not looking at the camera, etc.

I blame it all on pintrest.

I've been judging pretty heavily the last month and I see kids mimicking the same images over and over and over and a lot of the "new" portraiture.

Very few can pull it off.

This is what I thought, but wanted to hear it from a professional. Last time I was ice fishing with my BIL he handed me his camera to try. I turned the camera to take a pic of my husband with his fish. He went on about how you are never supposed to turn the camera and that is 'old school' and how it is never necessary. I pointed out that if I did not turn the camera, I would have cut off my husbands head b/c I could not step back further due to the puddle of standing water on the ice which I was not going to stand in. I didn't get into any photography points just that it WAS necessary to avoid having ice cold wet feet. He is starting to get into photography and took 1 adult ed class and now I am an idiot. :rotfl2: I have had many people tell me I have a good eye. One was a professional photographer who said I have an eye for photography and should continue with it.

Man I wish you lived closer so I could see more of your work and learn from you.

Sorry I bailed on you earlier Sadie... my kids bemoaned about something silly, like needing food. :rolleyes2

As a REAL photographer, you have to shoot both vertical and horizontal. There is no rule to say you have to shoot 100% horizontal. In fact, that makes you look really silly.

Next time he gives you hell for turning the camera, ask him what he thinks about the high profile photogs for magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, GQ, etc. Guess what direction their camera is turned???

;)

What? Kids need food? The nerve!

This was my thinking, but glad I heard it from you. I'll be ready for him next time. ;)

OOHHHHH!... and I thought it had something to do with the fact that computers and tvs etc.. are mostly "wide screen"... I heard somewhere that if you take videos and pictures on your smart phones and other mobile devices.. that you should use it in the "horizontal " mode because the vertical will distort the picture, or you would have to shrink it to fit your "wide Screens"..... don't really know..:confused3 just speculating.... my other theory is that it's a conspiracy..... to make me look wider than I already am.
:scratchin

LM..... Hope you're feeling better ... trips can be mentally draining.... as well as physically... and then you have to deal with all the .... that goes with it. Cheer up!! :flower3:

Kwitch how's your air?? did it get fixed? I was out past Lancaster this weekend... PA mom could attest.... it was 109 UGH... today it's only in the 80s.. but the humidity isn't so bad so it's nice.... if it only stays like this.. we're good.

My DS 8 is leaving for FLA this weekend for 10 days!! Can a mom be jealous? I wish I was going too... I doubt we're getting any real vacation this summer.... DH has been working on a project that runs daily until mid August.. even weekends.... my only planned trips are a few over nights to hotels in the middle of flippin' no where for Swim meets... CAN YOU SAY FUN?? (I know you're all jealous... who wouldn't want to be me... sitting in doors waiting for my DD to swim for 30 seconds... and driving 4 hours to get there,,) Actually one of the meets is at Penn State... maybe I'll get to see where they removed Sandusky's face.

Ugh... it's only WEDNESDAY>>>> I've got a bunch of stuff to finish at work before the morning and I am soooo not motivated.. I'd rather be here...

I've got this great poster of Captain Jack that someone from the San Fransisco field office sent me.... and It's placed right behind my monitor screen so I look into his eyes all day... My co-workers tease me that I'm going to get in trouble for day dreaming all day.... what a distraction... um... Pirate...

...what a way to go....;)

Thought I'd pop in with something upbeat and fun....

While in FL I spent an afternoon browsing an uber-cool book store (Mean Queen, I was at Haslam's!). I picked up a most unusual book, but absolutely could not resist!!....

:lmao: I love Haslam's. DD12 used to go to the school across the street from it so I went there a lot to waste time. Though I never did find that book. With 5 cats, I could make a bunch of stuff.

First off, YES! Parents can be jealous of your kid's opportunities. :)

Our air is running better. FIL went up to inspect everything (he does construction) and couldn't find a leak. Anywhere. We changed the filter and everything is working just fine. :scratchin:

Needless to say, I'm not terribly happy with the place we bought the furnace from...

I'm just glad we got a heat break. Never in a million years would I have been thankful for 90*. It actually felt cool tonight... and it was 87*.

We are in desperate need of rain though. Everything is so dry that it's scary.
