Babies on the plane? (21 months)

new to traveling with my babies....they will be 21 months old at their time of travel on jetblue.
do i bring their carseats? we are getting their own seats and i'm just not sure what to expect.

I would bring car seats if you plan to rent a car when you get to Disney. That way you will have everything you need. Just a thought. Have fun!

If you are purchasing seats for them, then yes, you will want their car seats for use on the plane. It will make life much easier for you and them as they will have a more snug fit and maybe they will sleep better too . It's also far safer in rough air.

I have twins too, but they're 12 now. It gets easier and easier.

As long as you have help for the extra "baggage" of hauling the car seats in and out of the plane, I would recommend bringing them along. My son's first flight was also at 21 months and I was glad to have a familiar place for him to sit. He was buckled in his seat the whole flight...just like a long car ride

I would still bring my car seats for them. You will have to plan out how to handle them and the children once you get their. It seem like alot of details but it's so worth the safety!

I would skip the car seats. My girls first trip to disney was at 17 months old. We did not have the car seats and it work out fine.
I would say my girls worst flight was when they were around age 2 and we broght the car seats on the plane.

It's one of those things where you will just have to see what's the best fit. On the trip down take the car seats on the plane and see how it works so on the return if it doesn't work out that great then don't take the car seats on the plane and just check them in at the counter or gate.

We will be taking our DD (14 months in Sept.) on her 1st plane trip this Sept. to WDW. We plan on taking the car seat on the plane due to the fact that with her in our lap nowadays she wants to get down but with a car seat and her strapped in there will be less resistance of her wanting to get down.

Keep in mind that car seats can only be used in a window seat, so choose your seats accordingly.

Unless they are quite large for their age, they really need to be in car seats. If they have their own seats, they'll have to be buckled up. Using lap belts for infants and toddlers is unsafe. They're used to their car seats - they're likely to be much more comfortable and compliant if they have that familiar restraint. (Not to mention they'll be safer.)

Yes, bring your car seats. Even if they are big for their age, they will be able to wiggle out of the seat belts on the plane causing potential chaos for you if they decide they don't want to sit anymore! Car seats = no fuss... you sit in it until we reach destination (or you have to go potty)

PP who mentioned car seats need to be in a window seat, that is just to prevent a person not in a car seat sitting in a window seat being blocked in by a car seat that is placed in the middle. I have seen 2 car seats side by side before.

I just posted about these on your other thread. These were a lifesaver for us. There is so little room in airplane rows that the carseats didn't fit well and our kids' feet were in the seat in front of them. These harnesses worked wonders - kept them feeling secure but still gave them plenty of room. We bought ours and then sold on ebay for almost full value after a few trips.

I about DIED when I saw a family in the car rental garage on our last trip trying to rig their 3 kids cares harnesses up to the seatbelts! I discreetly walked over to the booth and explained to the attendant what was going on and he told them they had to get car seats from them or they wouldn't be allowed to rent the car (because it's FL law to use an appropriate restraint, and cares isn't appropriate.)

Oh yes, I agree...if you are renting a car or taking taxis you'll need to have an actual car seat.

Also, keep in mind, if you do take your car seats they have to be FAA approved to be used in the plane. There should be a sticker somewhere on them indicating they are approved, otherwise you'll be unable to use them on the plane.

Thanks for the reminder... I have to go check dh's car to see if dd's car seat sticker is still on there (he has the lighter car seat in his car)... The stickers were bubbling and peeling because of the heat/humidity the last time we drove in the car! *off to find the superglue*

Sweet!! That will be SO much better for you, especially with twins. I can't imagine having twins, and 21 month olds... tough age!!!
