Babies at Disney in July - I'm worried

I wouldn't do it. I'd leave the babies home and go alone. The babies have plenty of time to see Disney. :goodvibes :cloud9:

I have to agree,How much fun are you going to have if all you will be worried about are the babies. How will the older child feel when everybody is concerned
wether the babies are too hot.:scared:

I haven't had to deal with a baby & summer for a while. When I read these threads, someone usually brings up that babies shouldn't use suncreen, and I see someone questioned whether you should give the babies water. I would love to know what is correct, does anyone have current information?

Boom, you have 2 trips planned this year? Lucky...:) I have twins and even at 4 in the vicious September heat it was unbearable at times.

Since you are taking 2 trips, why not take the whole family on the December trip? Is this an option??

I think the general rule is that baby's under 6 months old should not need sunscreen because they shouldn't be in direct sunlight.

You can always check with your ped.

Check out the above article about keeping kids safe in the sun. IT gives some recommendations.:cutie:

Oh, we went with a 4 month old in the summer and we did fine. We absolutely paced ourselves, LOTS of stops, LOTS of inside breaks. I nursed very often to make sure he was hydrated.

We always headed back to the resort for the afternoon when the sun was at its hottest and headed back out early evening.

I had a lightweight white sheet to drape over the stroller to shade out the sun, a little fan and a dampened burp rag for cooling down.

If there was a time I thought it was too hot, we went inside somewhere.

I was a pro at nursing undercover by the end of that trip let me tell you. Keeping him cool and hydrated was my main concern and it worked out very well for us, even with our 3 other children there.

We did not put sunscreen on him at all because he never needed to be in the sun. Babies skin is so much more sensitive in those early months, they just don't need to be exposed to the sun.

Best of luck in your decision.

You sound like responsible parents. I am sure you will make smart decisions for your family. :cutie:

Have a wonderful trip. It's totally possible, just pace yourselves and keep hydrated and cool.

We're all going in December. We wanted to go this summer as we love it there this time of year. I know, we're insane. I like the heat. My wife likes being at the parks at night (as do I.) And our 6 year old loves the pool.

In FLorida we use a recieving blanket made of diaper material and edged in crochet or lace. They are very light. If you have a lot of hispanics in your area check one of their baby stores to get some for summer. Also my girls spent a lot of time in onesies. I could always add pants as needed. My youngest went to Disney at 2 months. Kids in Florida are not kept in during the hot months of the year. Life goes on normally. I did nurse more often and had to keep myself hydrated. We didn't use bottles with my girls much at all.

Not insane . :) People do live in Florida year round - sometimes I wish I was one of them (especially in the 0 degree ice storm weather in February).

Anywho, if someone gave me the opportunity to go to Disney in July, I would take it in a minute (we went every year over July 4th as kids), but I don't think I could justify the cost to my husband.

Disney has plenty of places to cool off, and I'm sure you aren't planning commando park hopping with the babies. Are you planning on renting a car? It was wonderful to have our car there, rather than wait for the busses in the oppressive heat (that was really the worst). Other than that, we took breaks and had an awesome time.

Yup - Rented a car. Put both mine and my wife's name on it. Figure that way, one of us can head back to the resort mid-day with the babies, and if our older wants to stay, one of us can stay with him at the park.

I would just ask YOUR dr. How he thinks is best to keep your little one hydrated. Some say H2O fine and others say no to anything other than formular or Breast milk. Also ask about the sun screen. Our DB doctor said it was ok after 5 mo if we really need it but it is better to keep him out of the sun. Not really too hard if he will be happy in the stroller. Don't forget his little feet. Sometimes they stick out of the shaded area of the stroller and tend to get burned. I would sun screen these down on our DB after 6 mo. Also be sure to use a hat or sun screen the top of the head also if he is in the sun at all. There are so many air conditioned rest places so be sure to take advantage. One of our favorite is a few rounds on the monorail.

Good luck and stay safe

We took our DS on his first trip at 9 weeks over 4th of July and we'll be there in October w/our 3 weeks old, our ped said he'd rather he have him in sunscreen than be burned but stay away from the face use a hat.

We had a stroller that has a reversiable handle so if the sun was one way we'd flip it and face him away. You could look into stroller parasols for extra sun block too our newest stroller has one, as well as a UV protected hood.

He also said it was ok to give the unflavored Gerber electrolyte water just not to sub it for a feeding it's additional, but follow your own peds advice. It worked well for us 1 bottle would last all day and he'd only drink about 1/4 of it at a time. Just enough to 'quench' a thirst.

We had a stroller that had a boot that covered his legs for the most part and used one of those stroller fans, take a spare we took ours on every ride but on one trip it died 2 days in:sad2: . I know now they sell them there but they are alot taller and not sure how they fit every stroller. When we started taking ours we could have sold it for 100x's it's worth we can't count the number of people who asked about it.

Use the Baby Care Centers for cooling down. They are so nice for chnaging babies on a real clean changer instead of a hard plastic tray in a bathroom. They also sell batteries should your stroller fans die ;)

Take long afternoon breaks.

Babies can be easy travelers if you go in to it being flexible and knowing your plans could change at anytime. Lots less stressful.

To some extent it depends on the doctor, but most doctors advise parents to avoid sunscreen before six months. Ours did tell us it was ok to put it on DS when he was four months old (not the face or hands though), because we were going on a trip.
Also, nearly every parent I know has been told not to give their baby water. I'm sure there are still a few doctors out there who would disagree, but it seems to be the norm.

After reading the thread about the poor little girl left in the stroller.......

Where is this thread?:confused3
