My husband and I are taking our almost 10 year old to WD dec 2015. We have a will be 7 year old daughter (each kid is from a previous relationship), our daughter won't be coming with us, her mother won't allow it, however we were looking at trying for a baby over the next few months. With that being said if we do succeed, he or she will be at most 6 months old when we visit. Were leery to jump into this next chapter with our trip also being planned. I explained to him (I went in January, he didn't, with out son) that the cost really isn't a concern cause it's so young and doesn't require a seat on the plane, food, park tickets etc. and we can easily get a pack n play from disney and rent a stroller for the parks. My issue is we don't want it to affect the time and energy we spend with our son and the attractions he can go on. I've explained rider swap to him and all that jazz but were unsure if we want to cart around a baby for 12 days park touring.. We also don't want to wait to get pregnant.. Can't have ur cake and eat it to eh! Any words of encouragement or discouragement!! Pls comment!!

We went with 7-month old grandson, but we had a large group of adults (2 grandparents, two parents, two uncles, and two aunts), so we always had someone to be with the baby while we rode the attractions with height requirements.

We took him on all rides that have no height requirements, and it was fine. Most rides have no height requirements.

On the rides with height requirements, using Rider Switch will enable each parent to ride with the 10-year-old once, as you know.

So you'll miss being able to have both parents ride with the 10-year-old at the same time on those rides, and having an infant will definitely slow you down in other ways, but it is certainly manageable.

Thanx for your input, it's valued. It's the slowing us down bit were worried about, it's been so long since either if us has had an infant, it's like starting all over. I said I didn't want it to detract from our sons vacation and my husband pointed out he's going twice in less then 2 years, it's a luxury and hell have to deal with it! We also want a date night out but I know that the kids clubs don't take under 3.. It sure is a lot to think about!!

We took our daughter when she was seven months old and to date it was one of our best trips ever! At the time our son was nine and our oldest daughter was five. We skipped the stroller and used a baby bjorn carrier. She slept in the parks, and pretty much ate on our schedule (although I'll admit, we take a lot of short breaks in the parks for snacking). The only "extra" stops we had to make that might've slowed us down a little were to change diapers. She rode everything with us that did not have a height restriction and we used rider swap with the older kids for the bigger rides. To this day our older kids still love rider swap (we still travel with little ones) because they get to ride their favorites twice.

Your son is probably old enough to somewhat understand what traveling with a baby might be like. Maybe ask him his opinion? I know that if I asked my older kids if they wanted to go to Disney with a baby or not go at all, they'd say yes in a heartbeat. :)

We took both our kids for the first time at 5mo. Obviously, with the first, no big deal. We have a 10year age span, so we had to do ride swap, baby swap, etc the second time and we only had me and DH, no other adults. It was probably the easiest trip ever!! Baby goes where you take them, eats when fed, changed when needed, slept wherever, no problem. Once the baby learns to talk, has fears and favorites, it all changed again! Now go make a baby!! Rofl

We've kinda had this convo, we asked him over the last 2 years (been planning for a baby off and in that whole time!) if he wanted another sibling and it was an absolute no, not maybe or one day.. No flat out lol. I think part of it comes from him being an only child. My husband and I have on,y been together 3 years so he's been an on,y child for a good 5 years before they came into our lives and our daughter we only see every other weekend and for the first year together it was months in between that we'd see her so it was never like I ur face another child around 24/7. We did ask him last night and he said ya he would like one so that's a plus! We don't want to tell hi about the trip until at least June/July at the earliest incase something happens financially between now and then and we have to pull our deposit, which we are waiting to do come July 30!!! I'm sure given the chance of disney and baby vs no disney he'd pick disney!

My DS was also adamant that he didn't ever want another baby in the family. It never changed verbally, until DS2 was born. He was very excited then as you would expect. Honestly, my neighbor's daughter was excited enough for both of them. Although, he didn't want anyone to know when we were expecting and she told more people than he did, there were still MANY surprised people when we showed up with an infant!

I've never bee with an infant (I've been when I was pregnant) but from what I've read and seen it is very manageable if you're prepared. As far as your son, you and DH will just have to realize that both of you won't be able to do everything at same time. I would assume there will be instances when 1 parent stays with baby and other goes off with son on rides and such too much for the baby. If you go back to room for baby to nap one parent will stay in room with infant and the other can go to pool with son. I think your son will be able to do most of the things he wants as long as he's OK with doing some of it with only 1 parent and both parents being OK with not being able to do everything.

My only suggestion is make sure you get trip insurance because you never know. I wish you success and a very healthy pregnancy, but sometimes pregnancy and travel don't work well together. Best of luck with everything...

My pregnancy was hell the first time around, morning sickness till the day the kid was born.. Which thankfully was 3 days early.. But unfortunately came a good 24 hours after labour began'!! He slept through the night by 2 months, but my husbands daughter was a good 8 months before she slept all night, and when I heard that I was like ah **** lol! I much rather go with a baby then pregnant that's for sure, which is why the scheduling is a little tight.

And thanx!!

Question, can you keep the baby in a baby carrier (like one u wear) during a lot of the rides, of would u have to take them out and hold them in your arms?

I was able to keep baby in the carrier for most rides. One that stands out as to having to take baby out was the carousel.

Is there any any height rides you would recommend NOT taking a 4-6 month old? I put my son in the 2 harry potter rides, knowing he doesn't like rollercoasters, and the dinosaur ride to get him out of his comfort zone, obviously wouldn't do that to a newborn, but I wasn't sure if there was any to strictly stay away from.

We went with a seven year old and a seven month old and had a blast. I was surprised at how much dd enjoyed it--she loved the characters.

I took dd on several rides while she was in an ergo (baby carrier), and no cast member ever asked me to take her out. You cannot take an infant on any of the height restricted rides. We did rider swap for Soarin and mil watched dd for test track (in laws were there but we did not do everything together and that was the only time they watched dd). Otherwise we took turns doing the height restricted rides with ds. Also one of us took dd to the room for an afternoon nap each day while the other one did something with ds--pool, water park, etc. I try to make sure ds still gets to do things and isn't constantly told no or waiting for his sister (and vice versa) but I'm also very firmly of the opinion that it is good for both of them to have to wait and compromise.

There are in room babysitting services. I have not used them, but I think they will watch an infant.

You can't take a baby on any ride with a height requirement.

I've thought time and time again that taking an infant to WDW would be hell. But most people I've spoken to that have done it say it was pretty easy. I can't imagine taking an infant when it's super hot- but I think late fall- spring would be a good time. Good luck!

I was referring to the non height requirement ones, like obviously I won't put a newborn on the mad tea party in magic kingdom with the spinning and so forth..

We're looking at dec 1-13th 2015

We took our daughters when they were 4-5 months for each of their first trips. Aside from the rude "Your baby won't remember this trip, why do you bother?"* comments from some people, those trips were great. My daughters are 18 months apart, so there really wasn't a lot that my older daughter could go on that the younger one couldn't when we went when DD#2 was 4 months old.

*Those trips were not for the babies. My husband and I went for *us* as we will continue to enjoy WDW long after the kids are grown and not vacationing with us anymore.

See we're not going for the baby, if there ends up being one, and as my husband says, if ppl who know, ie family and friends that were taking a baby and they have negative comments, who cares lol! This is a trip for us as a family, were recently married, and it's more for me, my husband and our son. And the baby is coming along cause we wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them with someone while were away.
