Any IRL stories about b12 injections or lipotropic injections? A friend of mine is going to start this through a local doctor / wellness clinic and wants me to do it with her. Most of what I can find online is more "ad" than anything. How effective is this for weight loss? How safe is it? I have already been eating healthier and exercising more, and have lost about 15 pounds since January. And I am ok with "slow and steady" but I also have a lot to lose and am slightly curious about the program...it includes meeting with a nutritionist and physical exams, physician monitored, etc. Any thoughts? Side effects? I plan on calling my regular doctor tomorrow to talk to them also, but just curious as to what the "dis" has to say. Thanks.

It sounds like your friend is taking to to meet a dr about the MediFast Diet. It consists on shots, supplements and 500 calories a day (for females) along with very strict orders on what you can eat, within the 500 calories.

Of course eating only 500 calories a day you will loose weight. You will probably loose a lot of weight. But 500 calories isn't healthy and once you stop you will gain it all back, plus some

My DH does MediFast and there are no shots involved. Yes it is very low calorie though. It is similar to NutraSystem in that you order most of the food from them.

Aha...see, these are the type of responses I was afraid of. I don't want a quick fix, I know what made me fat, and unfortunately, I know how to not be fat.. I do have some health complications which make it more difficult than the "norm" to loose, but there is not a science to loosing...just use more calories then you eat... I know its only 15 pounds in february, but that's 15 pounds lost naturally...eating approx 1200 calories a day, exercise AT LEAST 300 mins a week and making better food choices. Sounds like I should just pass on this. I would love to spend some time with a nutritionist or someone else who can help me with meal plans...that is my weakness. I have a hard time putting together the meals... And since I am cooking for my family (who thankfully are not picky) I need meals for the family not just for me. I just don't want someone who is going to be pushing a preorder meal plan or lots of supplements. Thanks for the feedback.

Most B vitamins will make you gain weight. This is what the docs told my friend who was hospitalized for anorexia. B12 boosts metabolism and can lead to weight loss in individuals are are deficient in this vitamin.

i did B12 shots for a while. i asked my doc for them because i was sooooo tired. she gave me a script and i did the shots myself (actually my dad gave them) at home. i had the option of going to the dr office if i couldn't do it myself or didn't have someone to do it for me.
anyways, YES i noticed a big difference in my energy level and i lost weight.
the shots were once a month and by the 3rd week i was noticing that i would be more tired and usually wanted a nap after work. this would only happen when it was getting close to time for the next shot.
i'm bummed cuz my current doctor (old 1 moved) won't write the script unless my B12 is low when i have labs done
i've told them how they benefitted me before and BEGGED for the script but he just won't give it to me :sad2:

I know that the Bariatrics weight loss program that combines a diet program and B-12 injections says that the shots will help with weight loss.

This. I self-inject every 2 weeks as I have Pernicious Anemia. I definitely lost a LOT of weight since the start of it. My Dr said it isn't due to the B12, but nothing else has changed in my diet or exercise pattern..
