Awww! What a great story! Dog stays with missing 3 y/o girl.

What a great story! What a little cutie the girl is! And that dog is a hero!!

Thats so sweet. It reminds me of Homeward Bound. Been watching that movie for 16 years and I still cry when the animals find that little girl and leads the family to her.

What a good dog!:lovestruc Thanks for sharing that story. :)

I might be the only one who doesn't think this is cute.... Why was a 3 year old outside playing by herself in the first place?

I didn't see anything that said she was playing outside unsupervised. :confused3

I was assuming she got out of the house, which is really easy to happen. We have an alarm system, and when our kids were little, it alerted me several times when they got out and I didn't know. Once we were even AWAKENED by it, and realized one of the kids had opened a door. We *flew* out of bed to go get them. If these people don't have an alarm, or don't have it set to go off when someone goes OUT, they might not have known the little girl had gotten out. All it takes is a few minutes for them to be gone. Especially the time we were still asleep! We wouldn't have known she was missing until we woke up, if the alarm hadn't gone off!

This is from the MSN home page...

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - A family dog is credited with keeping a little girl safe after she spent the overnight hours Friday in 30-degree temperatures near Cordes Lakes, 36 miles east of Prescott.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn credits the dog, a Queensland Heeler, with 3-year-old Victoria Bensch's survival.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter crew saw movement and found the little girl and her dog just before 9 a.m. Friday, three-quarters of a mile from her home.

Authorities said the little girl was outside playing early Thursday evening when she disappeared along with her dog.

Dogs are amazing creatures! I love that story! Reminds me of the scene in Homeward Bound where Shadow stays with the lost little girl. That movie always makes me cry!

Blue heelers are very intelligent dogs, almost too intelligent for thier own good. But it would have known that it had a job to do & more than just a pet knew its job was to keep its charge safe.

I am only surprised that it did not 'herd' her home again, because they were bred for herding cattle and part of that instinct is to nip at cattle's heels to push them into an area the farmer or drover wants them to go

This is so true. dh had two blue heelers years ago and they are just amazing dogs. I am seriously thinking of getting him another one for his birthday.

And they do tend to herd everything. The one thing that was hard to teach the dog was not to "heel" the horses. It was just a part of his instinct.

He was so protective that we never had to worry about the kids out in the yard. NOTHING was coming in that yard with Chico out there.

As for the little girl playing out by herself, it is really very, very easy for a 3 year old to escape. Ds was 3 when he followed a dog off. He and his older brother were playing outside in a fenced in yard. I was with them but ran in to get something. Older DS yelled for me and I ran out to find my younger son gone. After a little while my older ds realized the dog (not the blue heeler we didn't have him yet, another dog) was missing and started calling the dog. The dog came back with younger ds right on his heels.

Wonderful story and happy ending, brought tears to my eyes, ya gotta love dogs

That poor little girl, she must have been so scared. Glad she had to the dog to comfort her and keep her safe.

We grew up the queensland healers. They are wonderful dogs and very protective of the family. I would love to get one, but my DH is not to big on them. Maybe this will win him over. :rotfl2:
