Basically the menu was so bad Disney couldn't give the food away!

I really hope they do change the menu. Lets keep our fingers crossed!

No, sorry.... according to Disney Dining, The Ice Cream Social is not being reinstated :(

Ahhh, so sad, this was a great refreshing break during a hot afternoon. Maybe one day soon they will change their minds. If they do happen to change there minds I'll be crossing my fingers for "REAL SOON" lol ;) as we leave in 18 days !!!!!
Thanks for letting me know!

Just called to re-make my ADR. CM didn't know of any new menu change. Read to me what was on the menu and it is the same is the icky current menu. Decided to make it just in case and can cancel when I hear a confirmation of change or not. Also no tables for 6 for lunch my day unless we eat at 3pm. Had to take 2 tables.

When I called and asked what the menu was she went through the whole "Well, it use to be an all you care to eat family style meal with cat fish yadda yadda yadda and now it is..." and then I said that I had just heard that it was changing soon. All of a sudden it was like she remembered seeing a memo or something and then read word for word what the meal would consist of and that it would change on the 21st. So, for once I have complete trust in what a CM has told me. We can't wait!

I had thought about trying it when I made my ADR's but that new menu sounded horrible! I wouldn't DARE call my TA since I finally finished driving her bonkers. I guess If I really feel like going I can wing it when we get down there and maybe try for a walk up or call for a ADR that morning. One question for y'all. I know it's a "family style" serve but is it like Biergarten with a "communal" table or do they have separate tables for every party like Ohana? There is only the two of us. Do they have tables for two?

You would have your own table. The only thing served Family Style was the salad. Don't hesitate to book it - as long as they bring back the old menu, you're in for a treat!

In Disney terms, Family-style means that serving dishes are brought to your table and you serve yourself like you would at home. You don't share food or tables with anyone else. The whole meal is served family-style, not just the salad since they don't bring "plated" food to your table. It is a really nice way to eat since you can choose how much and what you eat and if you want more of anything, you just ask and they just bring you more. They also let your kids help themselves to the "adult" food and adults eat the "kids" food if you wanted to.

Wonder where she was reading from, because it is right on the screen where they book the priority seatings. Maybe she needs to refresh?

This is GREAT news! We never got to try the "old" GG and when they changed the menu and it got bad reviews, we didn't bother trying the "new" GG last month. DH and I are going back in 2 months so I will definitely add this to our list of ADRs!! Thanks for this info! :sunny:

P.S. What was so bad about the new menu? Was the food just not good, or was it just not as good as the original food?? :confused3 Just curious!

Thanks for the "table" answers. I'll see what happens when we get down there. Leaving in about 2 weeks!!! If we do get to try it, I'll certainly come back with a "review" to let you know how it was!

Here's what the menu has to offer:

Appetizer: Speciality cluster bread w/ orange blossom butter
Dinner includes family style tossed ceasar salad w/ asaigo cheese and sour dough croutons

Family style entrees:
Brown sugar rubbed smoked pork loin w/ granny smith apple /raison chutney
Southern fried catfish
Grilled, marinated flank steak w/ mushroom cabernet au jus
Fried onion straws
Potato AuGratin casserole
Fresh cut Green Beans
Baby Green Vegetables

Dessert Medley:
Double Chocolate Bundt Cake with shaved chocolate
Lemon Tart with Strawberry coulis and orange zest.

Now that I have you salivating! :goodvibes

One thing I did notice is that they no longer do the "rehitchin'" ceremony. I always thought that was so cute~

When this 1st was announced they said it would be a choice of 5 desserts, but perhaps it was a misprint. The only thing I missed trying by not going to during this past couple of months was the chocolate fondue... that sounded so decadent! Anyway, this sounds tasty. Can't wait to try it!

Thanks for the menu - yummy
But do they have a children's menu too ?

My DD will not eat much off the adult serving.

My DS will be in heaven - Brown sugar rubbed smoked pork loin w/ granny smith apple /raison chutney & Grilled, marinated flank steak w/ mushroom cabernet au jus

Can you get just a plain salad family style ?
The only person is DH who will eat cheese or dressing on his salad.

I was kinda looking forward to the fondue as well. Oh well - this menu sounds very good!

WHOA! back up a moment there. Where did the veggie entree go? I hate beans and don't like fried onions. I was looking forward to somethign to replace the ravioli in tomato soup.....

I'll take the lemon tart, thank you very much, but find me a veggie entree PLEASE!!!

when I called the first time, the CM offered up the new menu very eagerly. I forgot to ask about the kid's menu and desserts, so I called back. That CM wasn't as forthcoming with the information, then I mentioned that I called a few minutes earlier to make a PS and knew about the change....after that, she was more than happy to share the new menu with me. Maybe they aren't supposed to say much until Sunday, when it is officially changed?

Both CMs agreed that the replacement menu was essentially a flop. LOL

aren't there 2 other desserts? A cheesecake and pecan chocolate tart?

also, will everyone get all the desserts, or will it be a choice of?

I'm SO glad to hear of the new change, especially since we will be eating there next Thursday. It was the only ADR I was truly scared about going through with on our trip because of such bad reviews. I had been trying to get other ADR's but all the ones I wanted were booked and I kept the GG ADR "just in case" we got there and it looked decent. I just called yesterday and had told the representative I wanted to change because of all the bad reviews I'd read on Disboards and they didn't mention one word about this new change. Glad I check this board a lot!

Yes, there is a kids menu... sorry I forgot to post it. It consists of Mac and Cheese, Chicken fingers and all of the usual suspects.

The only 2 desserts listed on the menu were the Lemon Tart and the Chocolate Bundt Cake. No pecan chocolate tart of cheesecake to be found. Sorry!:(

There is a vegetarian selection as well, but it may change from day to day, as it wasn't listed on the menu list, so perhaps the Ravioli may show up at some time.

I must be the only one on the planet who LIKED the new menu and DISLIKED the old one. We were there in Dec 2003, the meat was dry, the sides were canned, and the dessert was so bad that everyone wanted to leave and get a Mickey bar instead. I was back in May with my 19yo DD and we enjoyed GG's new menu very much. So much so that I asked for a few recipes and the chef came and joined us at our table for a little while. I really wonder if it was given a fair chance or if people just stubbornly abandoned it b/c it wasn't "the old way". I mean, how many people who were disappointed actually TRIED the new menu? There was no comparison to the previous food in quality. I made our CP ressies for there this December and now I may have to change :confused3 Little DDs will be terribly disappointed...they were happily looking forward to chocolate fondue.
