Need some extra money and strongly considering buying into Avon and starting out as a rep. Got a meeting on Fri to see what all is involved. So who here is a rep? And how hard was it just starting out?

I have very modest expectations btw. Still keeping Target while I do Avon. Also any tips/advice would be great. TY

I have a friend who did Avon. Not sure how it went or even if she is still doing it, don't see her much anymore.

Tried my hand at Mary Kay........I just can't get into sales mode......liked the huge savings for me though.

Now I've signed up under a friend to be a 31 consultant. Setting up my company website so hopefully I can just get orders there and do a few catalog parties (sales) a month.

Wishing you well in whatever you decide. Make sure and ask if there are minimums etc that you have to make to stay active. Also what are your out of pocket expenses. Some provide some business supplies (catalogs, bags, samples, etc.) based on your sales others your supplies are totally out of your pocket.

I've learned since i started at Target that I actually do like sales, so that doesn't bother me. I'm interested in Avon because its an easy buy in, and so many reasonable price points. I wouldn't do well at Mary Kay, I just don't like makeup all that much. I also don't have to have parties all the time with Avon. I could but its not required so that's a plus. If i do well with this I would eventually like to use this to quit target and still earn money. Cause we just can't afford to be a 1 income family. But if our adoption plans bear out then I could do this and take the time to build it and in the not too distant future stay home with the baby.

It is $10 to start up. You can sign up under a friend or there may be a local Avon training center near you. Just go in and they will sign you up. They will give you some books to start and you can start selling that day if you want.

I do everyting by computer and it is easier for me to keep track of everything...I don't have to worry about sending the payment through the mail, you get an invoice within a few hours of sending your order in so you can see if anything in your order will be missing. I am not a real "go getter" so I only have about 20 customers and I know all of them. Only once did I "toss" books around the neighborhood..I got 1 customer who then stopped ordering and I never did that again.
I usually earn maybe $80 a month, but split it with my friend who helps sell. I've never gone to a meeting either. Depending on my sales each campaign, I can take the postcard my leader sends me to a meeting and pick from free gifts. Never did that though.

That's another reason why I decided on Avon. $80 a month will not be enough to quit Target but I won't be quitting for at least a yr anyway so i can start slow and build it up. I'd rather set books a few strategic places or set business cards somewhere so ppl can request them. What really surprised me looking through the site to sign up was that there are 26 catalogs a yr. I never realized there were that many.

What I really wonder is how all this will play with my taxes come next yr. But if put some effort into this then I think it will be worth it.

I don't know how to highlight sentences yet..sorry! I didn't have to deal with taxes yet. But I know you have to have earned a certain amount then Avon will send you the form for tax time. I forget what it is called. I've been doing it since this past October and I am not even close!!
If you start your own web page through Avon, it is $7.50 each campaign, which is every 2 weeks. If you get 1 customer shopping through your "store" each time, your fee will be waived. I'ts a little pricey, but I think it is worth it. For me it is easier to keep track of orders, change orders, look at invoices, etc. You can also create another e-mail address for yourself and sign up as a customer on your own site. Use the free shippping codes, have it shipped to you and you will get your fee waived that way.
But to put your customers orders in, buy your books, samples, Demos (these are great!), etc. you have to be "the real you" and order the supplies on line through your main account or do it though the mail.
Hope I'm not rambling. Good Luck!!

So I've gotten started with my first campaign. Order's due next week, we'll see how it goes. Tried to post a question on the AVON boards this afternoon but it seems to have gotten lost somewhere as I can't find it now.

About the catalogs? I already have a batch for the next campaign but the one after I have to order. So when I do order them will they have my selling info on them or do I still have to add that myself when they arrive? If i do i want to buy a stamper so it looks nice, Because my printing is not the best in the universe. Legible certainly, but not great.

Thanx

You have to add your own info. I use sticky labels that I make at home with my printer. But a stamp will be nice too. Glad you started!! You can e-mail me anytime with questions if you want to.
