Avoid Wilderness Lodge in 2016?

If you were to book a WDW vacation for Sept of 2016, would you skip staying at WL? Will construction be in full swing and would it be as bad as the Poly was? Would the main lodge on main pool be affected as much since most of the construction will be taking place near the beach/water?

The main pool at the lodge was done last year. You might want to read this thread about the construction going on. I am hoping we can take my son and family same time but not sure as yet..

I was hoping to do WL during december 2016. Does anyone know if they have an estimate on when they expect to complete the work?

No, I wouldn't. The main pool shouldn't be affected at all. They will be working on the Villa's pool. They will be building little cabins near the water line. You will see construction, but I don't think it will effect the experience.

I just got back from a week's stay at the poly. I wouldn't have stayed there during the height of the construction because it affected the main building, main pool and walk ways. I also stayed at AKL during it's construction to convert the top 2 floors to DVC.

But you have to stay where you feel most comfortable.

I too am in a quandary. I booked WL on July 11 for a May 2016 stay. I booked directly through the website after weeks of researching every resort and coming to the conclusion that WL was perfect for my family. Fast forward to a week or so ago. I went to the website to pull up my reservation and noticed an orange warning about the refurbishment. That warning was not there when I made the reservation. Started researching and came across the thread mentioned. I read every single page. I'm wondering if I can avoid the construction by upgrading my standard view room to courtyard view. I considered moving us to AKL, but it just doesn't have the wow factor for me like the WL. As long as there is no major disruption to the lodge itself, the main pool, or the boat transportation, then I am willing to stay put. And, if I can snag a rack room discount later, then I can upgrade for about the same price of standard view. Plus, the resort could actually be less crowded if people are afraid to stay there. Still worried, though, because there is talk of converting lodge rooms to DVC. Is that confirmed and, if so, will it ruin our stay in the lodge? This is our second and probably last trip to Disney and the thought of not getting to experience WL breaks my heart.

I booked a stay at WL for November 2015 before the construction plans were announced. We were there in April this year and there was some scaffolding up for maintenance work, but any work was only noticeable when coming/going. Inside the main building and lobby was still gorgeous. We received a letter shortly after the construction was announced letting us know that any work would only be done between 9 and 7. We're gone during those hours anyway, so we wouldn't be bothered by the noise. I don't think the work will ruin my stay in November and wouldn't really be going by the beach area/smaller pool anyway. I loved it there and even with the construction am so happy to be going back! I wouldn't let it discourage you!

We had a trip planned for Nov 2015. We were offered a $100 a night discount or to move to another resort. After much debate we decided to move. I am excited to try Boardwalk Inn but LOVE WL. Maybe I can make another trip in a few years when the construction is complete.

I guess if the work doesn't affect the main lobby or pool it may be worth staying there.
