We are considering driving from Orlando airport to Cape Canaveral with Avis (one way rental) but do not know if there is a shuttle to transport us from the Avis counter to the Port. We would need the Avis shuttle also on the return.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Rae, my friend...I can help you out with this!!! Yes, the Avis is right at the Radisson Hotel in Cape Canaveral and they both have a shuttle they will take you to the ship and back.

We have done this many times. It really does not matter which shuttle you take. A few times we would be waiting for one or the other the other driver would say he was heading out and we should just jump in.

The Radisson shuttle has a sign-up sheet but I have seen that turn into chaos when people try to board who are not on the list. They are both the same size vans, but I have found the Avis drivers a bit more professional.

When you disembark, just hop the shuttle back to Radisson and pick up your car. WE sometimes just send one person and they pick up the car and return to the port to pick us all up.

Sending one person is a great idea. You can also do that on the way to the ship. One person drops everyone and the bags off at the ship - turns in the car at Avis - boards the shuttle back to ship. This way you do not have to cram all your bags on the shuttle bus.

You are all so smart.:D I would never have thought of sending one person on the shuttle. Thanks for the great idea:p

MJ - thank you!

DH seems very resistant to the idea of driving the rental - he'd rather use Disney transports. I'm hoping he will change his mind but like he said, "It's my vacation, babe - I'd like to relax the whole way and let someone else take care of it."

Rae, you might want to check the rates at Budget as well as Avis. Budget is just down the street from Avis/Radisson and also offers a free shuttle to and from the ship. If you're staying at the Radisson pre-cruise, of course Avis makes more sense; but if you're just looking for a car to get back to the airport afterwards Budget will work just as well, possibly better!
Happy cruising!

Hey, thanks Kim! Like I told MJ - DH is very resistant to the idea!
But I could use it in October when Mom and I cruise with Michael!
Plus I'd like to see a bit more of Florida than just the bus route!

Rae we will be staying at Radisson when we go in Oct. Why not come in the night before. DH drives us to the port then he goes back to the Radisson to park the truck and he get the shuttle back to the port. We've done it before, it works out great. If you rent a vehicle it would save you $$$$$ over using Disney's transportation. If your DH is not keen on the idea of renting look into a Limo service.

Ginger, with my family of 3 traveling and yours, maybe we could arrange something with a limo and save even more - ask DH if he would be interested.

We don't have our tickets yet but thought we would stay at the airport hotel the night before.

You can PM me or take this over to our October thread when you have an answer.

Thanks!!!!!

Rae
