Average cat lifespan

Just curious. My cat will be 17 in May and is as spry as a kitten. What is the average lifespan of a cat. Mine is a Persian, if that matters at all.

average is about 15 years, but they've been known to still be about at 22

Ya know I think it all depends . . .

I had a cat who had to be put down when she was 16 because of kidney failure . . .

My sister has 3 cats that are 17, 18 and 19.

Indoor cats it is about 12-17 years and outdoor it is 3-5 years from what my vet tells me. But obviously that varies with the cat itself. My brother's cat made it to 19 and my nearly 11 year old cat is just like a kitten (we think she has many years left with us).

When my cat was diagnosed with cancer at 11yo, I asked my vet the same question. She told me a cat can live healthy till 20 if kept indoors, an outdoor cat about 2. It told me ALOT about whether or not keeping my cat indoors was the correct thing to do!

My cat made it to 17 with the cancer. My sister has a 19yo cat now who has arthritis but is spry like yours!

Lifespan ALWAYS depends, the average lifespan for a human is 76.9 and the Today show contests that everyday!

my previous cat lived til 19yo. And he was spry and healthy til right near the end.

Both of my "childhood" kitties lived long great lives. They were indoor only cats. One lived to 16 and then had cancer. The other lived to 19 and had some kidney problems. They both were spry until the end.
