What is the average cat lifespan?

My oldest cat Touchstone will turn 15 this year. Isn't that 95 in cat years?

She went thru a rough patch healthwise about a year ago where we thought we were going to lose her but she recovered and is more active now than she has been in years.

How old can cats be? Of course we hope she has LOTS of years left but realistically how long could that be?

The average lifespan for a healthy indoor cat is 15 - 19 years. A lot depends on regular vet care, vaccinations, dental care, etc. Some cats could live to be older than that. Just like with people, it is variable depending on a lot of factors.

Indoor cats that have a good life can easily live up to 15 years. That's about 75 in human years. 18 is 86 and 21 would be about 100 years old. So if your cat is doing well, you might get at least 3 more years of joy with them :) My current cat is 13 and went through health troubles but now also as active and playful as ever!

I don't know what the average is, but my moms cat lived to be 19 years. Freakiest thing to know that her cat was still running around from when I was a child. Animals seem to live forever at her house.

My parents have a cat that is still kicking at 22 years. She's a tough old bird!

Have to agree with most of the other posters about 15-19 years, although I did find that my "pedigreed" cats did not live nearly as long as my "mutts" My Keiki died last year at 20 and Binky in my siggy will be 18 soon, she doesn't have a whole lot of teeth left and I supplement her food with some baby food. She too had a real rough patch last year and looked like it was going to be the end but has rebounded, although I really spoil her she has a heating pad in her bed and I really make sure she gets lots of TLC. The oldest cat I had was 21 and although in her last few years she looked like road kill she was still a happy and loving cat. They seem to start losing weight later in their life for some reason.

Our last cat was 13. (He died 2 weeks before our first trip to WDW.)
My mother has had cats that lived until 16, 12 & 10.

My oldest cat is 15. She was looking pretty bad for awhile but has completely rebounded. She more active and more friendly than she was when she was a kitten. She lost some weight but she was fat to begin with so it is not so bad. She has bad hips but she still jumps onto the kitchen table and climbs on things in the garage so she can't be in too much pain. I grow strange pets in my house.

My aunt has a cat that is 21, almost 22 years old. He isn't looking good but we can't believe how old he is. He is so friendly, it will be hard to let him go.

My cats seem to go right around 16. I had a siamese that lasted until 21!

:cat: My cat is going to live FOREVER............................just like my parents :goodvibes

Our male cat just turned 17 and is doing very well. He is an indoor cat.

Our vet had a chart that calculated cat ages like this:

one year old = 15 human years

two year old = 23 year old.

Add 4 years for every year after that.
So a 15 year old would be 75.

My indoor kitty is 14. He still plays like a kitten, jumps up on high beds with no problems and is still filled out.

Our old kitty Socks was a tough 20lb ex-fighter :lmao: He had a torn ear, a broken tail, scabby skin and the bulk of a sumo wrestler. He had only a few teeth and my mother would cook eggs for him every morning(the kids got cereal  ) The day before he died (at age 19)we watched him stalk and beat up a dog who wandered into our yard. The next afternoon he wandered out to the flowerbed, lay down and died. :confused3 We missed ol's Socks. He was the Frank Sinatra of the cat neighborhood pirate:

My sweet Trixie was almost 20 when we lost her in October. Most of my cats were 15 or over when they passed but a few were a little younger but had some major health problems.

My childhood cat "Boo-Boo" lived for 24 years!!! My cat "Zach" lived 17 years. We have 2 now and I expect them to live at least until 16. Love the cozy kitty feel.

My oldest cat is just around 20. She's still doing pretty good. She's a little wobbly from time to time but still eats well and plays. She's really small and skinny. She weighs just under 6 pounds. My previous cat made it to 19 but the last year or so was pretty bad. We had to put her down.
