Avengers: Infinity War

There was a little behind us during the movie. She kicked Dh's seat until I turned around and made eye contact. She stopped. Luckily she was too wrapped up in the movie to talk much during it, but she was nonstop talking suiting he previews, credits and first 5 minutes...right up until Loki...then she was mute until the end cr sits where she chatted non stop again.

I was once more, SHOCKED at the number of people who left before the lights came up at the end of the credits. Haven't people learned by now that it ain't over until it's over? There was even a group of young comic fans that stood up and yelled at the screen after the screen went dark and then stormed out of the theatre not even staying for the end end.

I don't get it.

We had about half our very small theater leave at the end and then a few more tried to make it through the end credits but gave up half way through that. One kid looked up at his dad and said "where are you going? sit down!" Obviously, Dad hadn't been to any of the other movies with his son :)

It is going to be really hard to wait for the next one. Don't know bout you guys but I could handle a 5 -6 hr Avenger movie :)

Since we are now talking spoilers here...

Any of those at the end are not really "deaths" in any way that matters. In the comic book this is like the first thing Thanos does, and through the power of the Gauntlet all of it can and likely will be undone. It's just a McGuffin to rally the (remaining) troops (notice how all of the original Avengers stuck around?). In the end we will look at Avengers 3 & 4 as one big movie. Yeah, the wait is gonna kill me though!
The wait is definitely going to kill me too! The 4th Avengers movie is slotted to come out this time next year (as of right now) and that is WAY too long.

This was the first time we went, when everyone didn't get up an leave. I was shocked. Usually we sit there dumbfounded on everyone getting up before the credits are over.
That's what happened when I went to see the movie as well. I was really surprised, mostly because my friends and I are normally some of the only people who stay behind to watch the end credits scenes. I think that you're right and everyone was legitimately too shocked to get up and leave.

Totally agree. I really wish I hadn't opened this thread. Pretty obvious. Gee thanks.

Aw geez, I'm sorry

To be honest, anyone who opens a thread about a brand new huge movie like this is sort of playing with fire when it comes to spoilers. If you want to be spoiler free then just stay away from discussions about it. Easy peasy.

That is what i normally do---in this case we went on opening day, last Thursday evening, so as to see it before any spoilers could accidentally make it to us even as we tried to avoid them.
However, common courtesy dictates NOT to post spoilers without warning---the thread titles does not warn of them (likely because the thread began as super generalized discussions and no spoilers----a place where people could do things like ask if 2-D or 3-D would be better, etc) and the DUS provides a system to "hide" spoilers in posts ---personally I feel it is a bit rude to post spoilers without asking that little extra effort to label and hide them---I figured people got excited and just forgot, not that they don't care if they ruin it for others, because you know, most of us do not like to have things spoiled for us.

The perfect movie. Loved it. I almost peed at the post credit sequence. I can't wait!!

OMG, me too. For Samuel L. Jackson to get cutoff in the middle of that particular line/word... It was the perfect bit of comic relief to offset the craziness that was the ending.

I finally saw this today. Good movie but strange ending. I know that it's only the first part but still...

I loved Dr. Strange. I still need to see his movie.

Due to all the spoilers and everyone talking about it. We decided to save our money and preordered it through Vudu instead. No death is final. The lookalike gauntlet is in Thor Ragnarok where Hela said "fake" and Rocket said something about it in Infinity War. No death is final and the deaths will be reversed.

Oh yes! This is one of our favorites! It is a wonderful kaleidoscope of fun at the movies. Dr. Strange is great!

I've noticed plenty of "why didn't this character do X?" questions, but no actual holes in the plot.

Here are a few examples :) ....

-Thor was badly scarred when Hela took out his eye in Ragnarok. In that movie, it was hard to tell when he was wearing his patch and when he wasn’t, simply because of the scarring around his eye socket. However, when Thor plucks the eye into his socket, the scars seem to disappear. Without surgery or a way to connect the new eye to his optic nerve, Thor shouldn’t have been able to see at all. However, then again, Thor is a god so maybe his eyes don’t work the same way as human eyes.

-When the Black Order comes to Wakanda, we visually see the invisible shield that surrounds Wakanda. This shield is set in place so that no outsiders can get into the country without permission. As seen from the movie, we also learn that the borders are constantly monitored via a handheld. This innovative technology keeps Wakanda ahead of any threats and is great at preventing the Black Order from storming into the nation. However, if all these tools are in place to stop outsiders from coming in, how did Killmonger enter so easily in Black Panther (2018)?

-Loki had the Space Stone, Vision had the Mind Stone, and Doctor Strange had the Time Stone. They all had incredibly powerful objects on their person, yet they never thought to use them against Thanos? Like Doctor Strange did when confronting Dormammu (sp?)

-When everyone fades away from existence, most of their items also went with them. Bucky faded with his arm, Falcon disappeared with his wings and goggles, and Black Panther and Spider-Man left the universe with their suits. However, when Nick Fury disintegrated, his pager stayed behind to send a distress signal.

Lastly,

-When Thanos was explaining his past to Doctor Strange on Titan, he said that the re-balancing of the universe should occur by random selection of people to be eliminated. However, if this selection was random, why did the original Avengers just happen to survive? At the end of the movie, we’re left with Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Iron-Man, Hulk, War Machine, Rocket, and Nebula. Besides Nebula, Rocket, and War Machine, these are the original Avengers from the first movie. Hmm.

-Also, why will Thanos return in Avengers 4? Isn’t he happy where he is? :confused3

I hadn't thought about the scarring, but I don't care. As for the eye: How did it work for the previous owner? Does it work? Maybe it's just comestic.

Because Killmonger is Wakandan. He has the lip tattoo.

This is a "why didn't X person do Y" question. Here's another one: Instead of wiping out half of all sentient life, why didn't Thanos use his godlike powers to double the amount of resources available in the universe? If Thanos is basically a god even with only some of the Infinity Stones, why did he resort to punching people?

When everyone fades away from existence, most of their items also went with them. Bucky faded with his arm, Falcon disappeared with his wings and goggles, and Black Panther and Spider-Man left the universe with their suits. However, when Nick Fury disintegrated, his pager stayed behind to send a distress signal.

So the audience could see what was happening. It was the entire point of the scene. I'd have to watch it again, but maybe he physically dropped it as he was disappearing.

This is a little silly. Having the two newest people disappear. Although that's a clue to people that this isn't permanent.

Also, why will Thanos return in Avengers 4? Isn’t he happy where he is? :confused3

Does he decide his sacrifice was too much? Or perhaps the Avengers take the fight to him.

Or maybe he's not in the movie at all.

Why would Thor risk his life for a hammer that he didn't need? Odin asked in Ragnarok, "Are you the god of hammers or the god of thunder?"

I think that was meant as a bit of foreshadowing for those who haven't followed the comics, to give fans a hint that their favorites maybe aren't really as gone as it seemed in that moment.

In a word, no. The price being what it was, I don't think he will be as happy with his success as he imagined he would. But I also expect there's going to be an element of taking the fight to him.

Yeah, spoiler warnings are great and all but I have to disagree with both your points above. First of all I don't know where you are assuming the thread would be for asking about 2D or 3D the thread started off discussing the ending of the movie and grew from there. "Common courtesy" might dictate not posting spoilers, but "common sense" dictates you don't read threads or join discussions about a movie if you don't want to know anything about it. Before I saw the movie I pretty much avoided the whole internet to avoid spoilers, not to mention purposefully clicking into a discussion of the movie lol.

Don’t forget to stay for the post credit scene!
Not into the comic based or superhero movies. My kids made me take them. I spent about 40 minutes, had no idea what the movie was about, had no idea what character was what (it seemed to me to be 2 spidermen), it was roasting in the theater, and this theater's seats are horrid. I left them to watch and went out to the lobby. Movie was at 2:00 and asked someone when it was finished. 4:50! I still had like an hour and 10 minutes to endure!

I went back in for the last 15 or so and at the end, I stood up.... and no one else stood up. I was confused. Asked the kids, what's going on, why isn't anyone leaving. They told me about the clip. Sheesh, we sat there forever watching credits roll by.

It was the weirdest feeling everyone leaving the theater room in complete silence with nothing playing on the screen.

(Spoilers Below!)
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I really appreciated the humor that was sprinkled in throughout the movie and thought that Marvel handled the large cast very well under the circumstances. Yes, I do know that the ending isn't truly the ending and that all of the deaths at the end of the movie will likely be erased or reversed in some manner. But, despite that, the ending emotionally wrecked me and I found it to be a little uncalled for. Forgive my rant, but that movie left me with a ton of emotions. :confused3
Man ... Do not go see old yeller.

Well, I think that while Thor doesn't need Mjolnir to have the power of the God of Thunder, that power just isn't enough to take on Thanos. He needed even more of an upgrade, something specifically made for fighting Thanos and the power of the Infinity Stones.
