Avengers: Infinity War

Going next Monday for our anniversary. What do you guys think, would it be ok in a standard showing, or do we really need to spring for Imax/3D? We have Moviepass!

I was surprised how almost no one in my theater was laughing at the humor. I was and the woman next me did, but I didn't hear anyone else laughing. I thought there was a lot of good humor in it.

I think you'd be fine in 2D too. I have watched some in 3D, but did not think it added much to the enjoyment of the movies. I doubt I'd spring for it any time soon.

Our theater was packed, and we had some not so nice people, there was more than one time we had to collectively say, hey put your phone down.

My DS saw it twice. He really liked it, but as a comic fan, I think he enjoys these movies more than I do.

This is becoming more of an annoyance lately with rude people bringing their phones out and it drives me insane. There was a woman sitting in front of my husband who brought her phone out during the movie and didn't even try to be discreet. She just held it right up to her face. So my husband gave it a few minutes thinking she's just checking a text or something quick and will put it away. Then she proceeds to start scrolling through her news feed. My husband politely asked her to please put it away. After the movie, she proceeded to give us a dirty look and then made some snide comments. What is wrong with people?? I cannot stand that attitude.

Sorry for the vent! Back to Avengers - we loved it! But I think the first Avengers is still my favorite of all of the Marvel movies.

I didn't hate it---but dang was it unexpected. When the credit started to roll and it became obvious that blank screen really was the end our almost sold out theatre collectively gasped.

Similarly, at least a dozen people (probably twice that---and it was a smallish theatre) exclaimed either "Holy ****" or "no ****" almost in unison after the after credit scene.

So I guess reactions were pr3etty much all on the same page.

I enjoyed it a lot---so many funny moments.

Same here. I gasped and then turned to my husband with my mouth hanging open. He quickly told me there was going to be a part two. Of course we have to wait a whole year!

Right, it wasn't the ending, it was the beginning. A little note about that, in the comic book that this is based off of, that "happening" is one of the very first things that happened. The story had to deal with that. It was certainly shocking in terms of the movie, but rest assured that when dealing with things that are on this cosmic level, there is no damage that cannot be un-damaged.

Overall I liked the movie quite a lot. It sure didn't feel like two-and-a-half-hours! It did jump around a lot and it was like a series of excuses for the next character to show up and flex, but, hey, you can't knock it for being a crowd-pleaser!

I didn't know how long it was going in and I was shocked when my husband told me it was two and a half hours. I typically have a tough time sitting still for that long.

Yes, DH is a huge comic book fan *cough - nerd- cough* and said this actually the beginning of the story and come on, who is ever "dead" in the comic book universe? I mean Loki has been gone at least twice in the last decade.
What will be interesting is to see how Ant-Man and Wasp and Captain Marvel weave or ignore the events in those movies which come out before part 2 in May of next year. Also, do the tv shows like S.H.I.E.L.D and Jessica Jones deal with it? Interesting. We loved it btw, the theater was packed even though it was the first nice weekend day all year and there was lots of laughter.

I agree with regular 2D, I am not a big 3D fan and can't imagine it would add that much.

As far as I know, Ant-Man 2 and Captain Marvel take place before IW - we know for a fact that Captain Marvel will take place in the early 1990's. I am thinking she was a clandestine hero, like Hank Pym was during his run as Ant-Man. SHIELD hasn't dealt with it yet, but there was a line on Friday's episode that was something like, "Did you hear about the crazy stuff happening in New York?" My assumption is that they were referring to the appearance of the ring-shaped ship. If AOS gets set for another season, then I wouldn't be surprised if they do tie in more directly, but at this point that's a toss-up.

I enjoyed the movie. But it's hard to create a major impact when you recognize the ambitions of The Walt Disney Company. So the ending was meaningless.
I've seen a good number of op-ed pieces along this same vein. I think the gist of the complaint is that the Movie Studios/Disney went with a cliffhanger purely as a cash grab. For some movies this is legitimate criticism. The Hobbit. Harry Potter Deathly Hallows. Hunger Games Mockingbird. These all could have been single movies.

But that's just not how comic books work. Cliff hanger endings are a legitimate plot device for these stories. And, yes, within minutes of the screen going black everyone figures out that the horrible thing they just saw will get its way back to something like normal in subsequent movies. That's how comic books work. The point isn't to devastate us with the idea that 'so n so' is gone forever. Most of these characters are title characters in their own ... still going ... comic book series'. The point is to portray how this 'reality' affects the characters on the screen, for whom all of this can only be considered real and permanent. That's where the consequences are paid out and that look on Stark's face at the end tell me they hit hard.

If you like 3D, it's worth it. We went to see it both ways this weekend. First in 2D and 3D and Imax the next day. We like 3D and for us this movie used it very well. Some people don't care for it. I will say, that if the theater is Imax, it probably doesn't use the circular polarized 3D projection system. This means if your tile your head relative the screen, the image breaks up. If you sit off to the side, the angle of the screen at the far end can ruin the 3D effect from time to time. We like to sit to the sides generally but if we do another Imax 3D using this system we'll sit in the middle.

.I wonder if the audience was mostly people unfamiliar with the MCU who went based on all the buzz the film is generating? I don't think most of the humor would work if you weren't familiar with the characters and their personalities already.
Lots of MCU films are excellent stand alone films, but this one really isn't. It's a film for the fans

^^ Agreed. Without knowing something about who these characters are (especially Guardians of the Galaxy, I think, and all their quirks) the humor would go over people's heads. This movie basically exists to shake things up and change the rules of all following MCU movies, which makes it unlike any other movie in recent memory and totally fascinating in its own right. But, I'm afraid that the people drawn to the movie because of the buzz will be missing out on the whole point if they aren't familiar with previous MCU movies.

Hey don't forget some people are just not "laugh out loud" types! No one would have heard me laughing either but I had a big grin on my face for most of the movie and then a HUGE grin at the funny parts. The movie was so good, one of the most epic I've ever seen.

The part at the end with Spiderman...aw :sad1:

I had to go and see who was playing Red Skull because I knew that voice (and it certainly wasn't Hugo Weaving LOL). It was Aaron from The Waling Dead!

(Spoilers Below!)
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I really appreciated the humor that was sprinkled in throughout the movie and thought that Marvel handled the large cast very well under the circumstances. Yes, I do know that the ending isn't truly the ending and that all of the deaths at the end of the movie will likely be erased or reversed in some manner. But, despite that, the ending emotionally wrecked me and I found it to be a little uncalled for. Forgive my rant, but that movie left me with a ton of emotions. :confused3

Uncalled for? How so?

Yeah, when the movie ended I asked my son "Geez, how are all the little kids taking this?" I thought it must have been traumatizing to some of those little superhero fans...some of them were looking a little sad and serious when they left, others were smiling. I think the smiling ones had been prepped that this was not the end lol.

I'm not sure, personally, I think that the way deaths were handled was a little uncalled for. One example of this, in my opinion, is Bucky's death. After they spent several movies building up his character, they kill him off without an honorable death and without any sort of closure. I understand that the ending was required, but I just found it to be executed a little poorly. But, let me know what you think, this is just my personal opinion. :thumbsup2
