Avatar to open Christmas next year?

i hope so
but i see TSL being built first
No doubt. DHS needs that capacity before Star Wars opens. If DHS was only getting Star Wars they could have some problems. It does seem things have sped up a bit as spring 2019 seems to be the target for Star Wars with toy story opening the year prior. Many originally thought Star Wars wouldn't be until 2020 at the earliest. Heck they might even speed it up more to late 2018 if they can.

There may be incentive to speed it up , though.

If they needed incentive to speed up...then they need their heads examined.

Anyone with even the slightest grasp of the situation knew that even a decent/solid Star Wars movie was going to get a ridiculous reaction...

Why?...well we know why...

But anyway...unlike avatar, the "delay" here was to use the new material. I see why they did it now...because it's basically just a modern reboot so use what it fresh...I guess.

I'll never agree with that approach. They could have given the classic movies more sustained life by building an area themed around those...and expansion, really...had that roll out say 2016...and then did the fresh material for a 2020 ish opening or later to keep the train rolling.

There are tons of reason they didn't...primary being we'll spend for the current load of nothing...so why spend if the kids don't know they're eating S.O.S.?

So additions are "strategic".

If there had been a real backlash for the last few years of increased costs and lower investment...the stormtroopers would be pouring concrete and painting to open Star Wars land next week.

Such is life.

i actually disagree
delaying has led to using both the originals and the new material
dont always agree with the mouse but this time i think they got it right
JMO of course

I don't disagree with that take...

...I'm just not sure it's accurate. Haven't they hinted - if not outright said - that the developments are going to be "new material"?

On the bright side...none of that silly pod racing garbage

Yeah...over 200 million dollar budget and it stands at 96 million domestic after 4 weeks of release. Only 93 million overseas at this point. Maybe it will take off in China and Japan later but still...a huge financial loss.

It's rumored to have a P&A budget in excess of $150 million. At best, Disney gets 50% of these grosses.

Total Worldwide gross is under $200 million. This film would have to gross $700 million to break even. It's every bit as disasterous as Tomorrowland. Two historically expensive flops in one year.

The profits of Inside Out are gone and Star Wars has got to have really strong legs past this opening weekend to really make up for this.

They also make substantial money on DVD sales, other distribution and associated licensing. Granted that is less on flops, but they'll make a lot more than it looks like just from the box office numbers.

The implication was it would be new material based for both the rides and the location. However since several characters reappear they can sort of have their cake and eat it.

Good Dino merch was also in the parks and I saw it in my local Disney store just today yet so I wonder how much they are making off of it in that department.

I understand people's prequel hate, but I have never understood the hate of the idea of a podrace ride (you are not the only one I have heard say this). No matter what you think of the prequels, it's hard to deny that the podrace would make a really cool ride.

So at the risk of starting an unpleasant rumor... two permits were filed this week for work on Avatar with the contractor being Disney's internal Buena Vista Construction Company. What is strange is that both permits have an expiration 12/31/2018. I really have a hard time believing Avatar will take that long to finish, but I can't figure out why that date is on the permit.

Yes very strange.

It took forever for that thing to go vertical...

I mean...would you be surprised if they're a year behind?

And as most of us probably would agree...there's not OT, bonuses, incentives for early completion these days...

I really don't believe they are a year behind. Rock work is moving right along with concrete work really starting to show. I think their 2017 date is right on schedule.
