AVATAR land aerial photo update

Dud movie aside, I think if this land builds on the groundbreaking 3D and special effects of the movie, it could really be incredible. Thanks for sharing.

It may just be the aerial view, but It looks huge! Some of that area will probably be backstage, but it's still a nice plot of real estate. I'm one of the few people who actually liked Avatar (a lot really) so I am looking forward to this.

you are not one of the few. a lot of people liked it as it scored an 83% on Rotten Tomatos site, highest grossing movie of all time (US and global), etc. it just seems the minority of the people who did not like it are the vocal ones.

I also liked the movie and can't wait until this is completed!

It just feels that way sometimes. It's been cool to hate on Avatar since someone on the Internet called it "Pocahontas." Guess I know why I like it!

Thanks for posting - I'm looking forward to it. Other than the few concept art photos (which look great!) on that same site, have there been any releases about what Avatarland will actually include?

Nothing is known for sure. There is supposed to be an "E-Ticket" "flying" ride that simulates riding on a Banshee. We don't really know what that means, but most suspect a 3-D projection/motion simulator type ride. There was supposed to be a boat ride too, but rumors were it was scrapped.

They are supposed to have the glowing flora and the floating mountains for ambiance and theming (I'd guess the flight ride will be at the mountains). Hopefully they will release more information about it soon.

Cannot wait! When are we expected to see initial openings? Next couple years?

Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't know we had blueprints like that. I do hope the ride is more elaborate than Soarin', or at least has more physical motion. Seems like it could be like Simpsons Ride, but I'm hoping for something special.

And here are some pics of the site going vertical with parts of construction signed by imagineers

Ironic how many trees they chopped down to pay tribute to a movie about saving trees! :rotfl2:

Funny how all of a sudden people care about the quality of the movie in order to justify the attraction. An awful lot of attractions are based on awful movies. Splash Mountain. Dumbo. Peter Pan. Tea Cups. Dinosaur. And many of Disney's best movies, especially the more recent ones, haven't resulted in any attractions at all.

Bummed about the boat ride! That's one of the few things in the concept art - looked like a slow ride through the glowing flora & fauna. I think it would be a good family ride for this park. Maybe the same glowing stuff on a walking path would still be awesome, though.

There was never a credible rumor that the boat ride was scrapped, only that it may open later then other parts of the land. The aerial shows something significant being built where the leaked plans showed the boat ride going so it's pretty safe to assume that it is happening, the only question is when it will open.

There really weren't that many trees removed, most of the space being worked on in that aerial photo was already empty land. The only trees that were removed were the ones around the FOTLK theatre.

And I think they usually transplant trees that are part of park landscaping, if I'm not mistaken. A CM once told me they'd rather tear down a building than trees...I don't know if that happens in practice though.

That's good then! It'll still be great to have even if it's not ready in time for the opening of the land. Really, a phased rollout is great because it should get at least part of the much-needed new area open sooner.
