Avatar Flight of Passage - is it all that?

Ok I keep reading about Avatar Flight of Passage and FP+ and how difficult it is to get, how long the lines are even 10 mins after park opening, lines up to 3hours......So in reading all this and thinking why would someone spend 3 hours in a line for what it is it, 5mins? I could think of lots of other things to do in that time, is it all that and worth the crazed reputation it now has?

I wouldn’t wait 3 hours for too many things. But the very first time I rode FOP I waited 70 minutes and it was well worth the wait.

Granted we had scheduled fast passes and even scored same day afternoon fast passes during our last trip but....this is my favorite ride at wdw. I’m literally in tears by the end of the ride over its beauty. I can’t even describe it, but for me, it’s an amazing, immersive experience.

I personally don't think so. I wouldn't stand in line that long. But it's definitely a favorite for my children. Although I don't think it matters as far as the ride goes, I've never seen the movie. I don't really think Navi River or even Pandora in general is that big of a deal either. Maybe if I'd watch the movie, I'd have a better appreciation for it. I did enjoy the ride, but once per trip is enough for me.

I love this ride. It is amazing. We have always had a FP+ and are actually going to AK AH to get a few extra rides on it. Also going to RD it at a 7am EMH. I wouldn't wait in a 3 hour line for any ride. Like most here, I spend a whole lot of time planning so that I don't have to wait in lines. Need to be on the move.

It's not my favourite WDW ride as I prefer non-screen based rides but it is awesome to ride, That said, there's no way I'm waiting 3 hours for any ride. We have ridden it many times but have had FP's all but 1 of them (jumped into the SB line once to get out of the rain and it was under an hour).

My favorite ride, 2nd only to FJ at Universal.
I have waited 2 hours in the line, in order to see the entire queue. At park closing so didn't waste time doing anything.
We otherwise ride with a FP any opportunity we can.

I liked it, wasn’t blown away the way many are though. Would never wait in line for 3 hours for any ride. I’d rather pay for EMM or DAH to get on with low crowds.

I was skeptical of the hype. Rode it for the first time this week. It lives up to the hype. Completely amazing. That said, I wouldn’t wait 3 hours for anything. If you can’t get a FP and don’t want to rope drop, I’ve read on here that people have had luck getting in line closer to closing.

Yes, and no! But let me explain... first time experience riding this, there is no other experience like it at WDW in my opinion. It is AMAZING. It is also worth a wait, but that is subjective for everyone how long you are willing to wait. To avoid the lines for FoP if you can’t get a FP+, plan to rope drop and get there WELL before the park officially opens. They start letting people inside to line up before that time. (I don’t know about lately, but in summer 2018 we were able to
ride it before the park was even open, but idk if they are still opening the ride that early or just letting people line up early).

For my “no” answer... now that I’ve ridden the attraction SO many times, a little of the Magic has worn off. I still love it, and NOTHING compares to riding it for the first time, but at the end of the day I still prefer a real rollercoaster like Expedition Everest. It’s my fav! But yeah... definitely a Must-do at least once!!

Like most things at Disney, I think it's doing at least once to decide for yourself how you feel about it. Like most things at Disney, though, it's also worth strategizing to avoid a 3+ hour wait for that privilege.

Personally, having done it once I don't consider it an absolute must-do for my next trip apart from my general desire to ride (almost) every attraction at the parks. My issue is that I just have a really hard time suspending my disbelief for motion simulators (my own fault; I studied them as a senior thesis project and deliberately broke the illusion for myself on so many rides to see how they were done that it's just habit now). It's a very advanced, very cool motion simulator, but at the end of the day you're just sitting in a moving seat in front of a big screen (and a seat that doesn't easily accommodate diverse body shapes to boot--I think that was a bad move). I prefer rides that physically move through real space. I know that sounds really negative...I don't hate this ride and I don't consider it a waste of time, I just would much rather spend my time on something with a ride vehicle that moves through real physical space. But I've only ridden it once, so maybe I'll change my mind when I ride it again. I just don't see it becoming a favorite of mine, and if anything I think all the hype made it worse for me.

Like the PP, I won’t wait more than 30 minutes for any attraction. I also won’t kill myself getting to a lark an hour or more before opening to get lost in a sea of people fighting for a place in a queue.

FOP is one of the best attractions I’ve been on. We always get FP+ for it. If you can get FP+, then I’d absolutely recommend you do so. If not, the world will not end.

If you aren't able to score a FP for this attraction,then there is no way to avoid waiting in some form to get on. Whether you are waiting in a crowd to be let into the park, got there an hour before the park opens - you are waiting. Even if you hop in the queue just before park closing, there's a good 45 minute wait, at least.

I will point out that you rarely hear in the crowds at the end "I can't believe I waited 3 hours for THAT" with a tone of great disappointment. The comments I hear from other riders is always been one of awe and excitement. Even if they aren't ready to get back in a 3 hour line to do it again
