Availability of resorts in June at 7 month window

I stayed there more than 10 years ago. I know transportation is maybe that resort's weakest point. I don't mind the bus ride, but you're right, with a little one it may be more of an issue. That's why I really wanted to be on the monorail loop. But it seems like we will be able to get rooms at Bay Lake Tower during June without a problem. I'm just not a fan of the theme. Not at WDW.

What about Poly availability at 7 months. I'd wager it's on par with GFV, but does anyone have any thoughts on that? Or is DVC Poly not old enough to have an idea?

Well, if enough buyers bought enough points and actually bought points to stay in a bungalow, you might be able to book a studio at seven months out. BUT, if most buyers bought enough for studios and not bungalows, there aren't going to be many available at seven months out.

I'd imagine most buyers bought/are buying for studios.

I think we are going to just fly over there and see what our hearts tell us haha.

As to comments above about AKV bus service to MK and trying it out first, it is always a good idea to try a resort before buying. However, we own at both AKV and BWV and have stayed at others. What we have found is that we will take the AKV bus system over any of the others. In miles it is further from parks other than AK (which is only an eight minute trip) than other resorts that use buses to parks but we have found the AKV buses to have less delay issues than others, and because any bus trip involves only two internal stops and no sharing with other resorts, the trip to MK is as quick and more often quicker than the one from other DVC resorts using buses to MK, Studios or Epcot.

As to Poly availability at 7 months out, you really cannot rely on what has has already happened because it is too new to confirm any patterns that may develop by the time the resort is close to sell-out. As to what has occurred, those attempting to reserve 7 months out for a studio during DVC's peak demand season -- late Sep to marathon weekend in January -- found Poly studios were already booked only a low minority of the time at 7 months out but, when available, they usually booked quickly for any particular day as soon as the 7 month window opened. The bungalows were usually open at 7 months out except for a few days during some very high DVC demand times like first week of Dec and Thanksgiving time. DVC's low to moderate demand season begins right after marathon weekend in Jan and runs to late Sep. As to reservations at 7 months out for times after marathon weekend Jan 2016 for which we are now through only early Feb for reservations at 7 months out, Poly has been open at 7 months out and, in fact, still remains open for any days in January after marathon weekend. Moreover, no future days through early June have yet filled by members reserving within the 11 month window.

What would be an ideal UY for traveling predominately during the summer months and occasionally long weekends in October and December?

But what if we want to take a trip March. Will we not be able to if we have a June use year? Or is it just riskier in case we have to cancel. That's how I'm reading it anyways.

The June was suggested as best based on the months you listed above. However, any UY can take a trip any time of the year. What you wouldn't have is a lot of time to use points if you had a last minute cancellation to that trip in March. If you never cancelled it wouldn't matter a bit what UY you had.

Let's pretend you have a June use year. You're banking deadline is January 31st.

Now let's pretend you have a reservation in March. If you cancel that reservation before January 31st, you can bank those points. If you cancel after January 31st, then you have to find another use for those points before June 1st.

But, the problem isn't limited to cancelling. Let's say you could only book a one bedroom, but you really wanted a studio. If you waitlist a room that costs fewer points, and it comes through, you're in the same situation with points stuck in that use year with only a month or two left to use find a use for them. Or maybe you tried to book a full week, but a day was missing in the middle. Do you risk waitlisting the missing day, which puts all your points at risk if the waitlist doesn't come through?

There's lots of risk when you book in the last three months of your use year. If you always keep your original booking and never cancel, then it won't be a problem. But, it's basically free insurance in case you need to cancel, if you can make an educated guess about the best use year for your future travel plans.

Just returned from a 10 day stay at BCV studio (June 23-July 2).

Had no trouble booking this at EXACTLY the 7 month mark.

As you can see from my signature, we have stayed at BCV many times (8). Have never had trouble booking a studio on the EXACT day the 7 month window opens.
