Autographs

My kids had the typical autograph books. Now I'm looking for something else fun to get signed. A friend did pillowcases for couch throw pillows.

They got so many signatures last time so I'm looking for ideas for when we see duplicates. I'm also wondering if the ones we don't have would sign the alternative item and their autograph book as well.

You wouldn't do this for every character, but for a few special favorites, I've seen people bring a frying pan for Rapunzel to sign, a favorite book for Belle, a Chinese fan for Mulan, etc.

Something for everyone might be a t-shirt, ball cap or drawstring backpack.

I'm not sure if they'd sign multiple things. . . When my 3 kids were all collecting autographs, they did sign one for each, so I'd guess if one of your kids had a book and one had the special item, you'd be fine. Not sure about long lines and 2 books plus 2 special items. . .

why don't you start a scrapbook? Someone else suggested getting characters to sign on a pretty notepad paper and add it to the collection of stickers and photographs of said character.

or you get a t shirt for them to sign

I make my own autograph books. They were a real hit with the characters last year. This year I am again making my own autograph books but we also have the Disney junior encyclopedia of animated characters book that we are going to get signed. Obviously the duplicates won't sign that book which is y I have the back up autograph books.

I make my own autograph books at well. (Well, I sort of make my own. I get A LOT of assistance from the Disign board on here for the autograph cards, but I do all the formatting using MS Publisher and print them at Office Depot, so I say they are "mine") and every character has always been excited that it was something different from the standard. I've actually had some of the characters get "upset" because they didn't have their own card to sign like other characters.

I made slipcovers for couch pillows out of unbleached muslin and had those signed. For me, I bought a Red/Black Mickey apron in Disney and had the characters sign that. I love it! Hangs on a hook in my kitchen and I use it all the time.
I don't really have advice on the duplicate characters. IF (and it was rare) we met the same character multiple times in a trip, we just didn't bother with the autograph the repeat times. Just enjoyed the interaction and photos.

I use Publisher too, I make mine from scratch though it takes me a LOOONG time and this time around I had a lot of difficulty formatting them to be the right size...I was banging my head against the wall it was soooo frustrating! That was another issue too...we recently got a new printer, so I could print my own autograph books, and I print on card stock and the printer kept telling me "out of paper" when I had a whole reem of card stock in there. Well apparently my printer was just too sophisticated for me, lol, theres an option that I had to select in the printer settings to print on card stock...go figure, lol. Anyways when thats all done printing I then take the books to Staples and have them cut out, bound, and they laminate the cover and the back cover for me. Last year to have them do all that it was only like $8 per book...not a bad price and the characters really get a kick out of them.

Wow, $8 per book? I need to find a Staples around here. I set up my book as half-pages, have it printed on card-stock, cut, spiral bound, with front and back covers and usually runs in the $20 range, depending on exactly how many characters I have pages for.

And yes, the characters definitely get a kick out of them. I had Frozone get sulky because I did not make a page for him, but had one for Mr. Incredible. King Louie actually "signed" Baloo's page, since he wanted to prove he could sign; I had told him I didn't make one for him because he didn't do autographs. Woody walked off when I told him I didn't need him to sign, just Jessie (because I had already gotten his signature at HS the day before).

I've done picture mats & pillowcases for my grandkids. They really liked both and picked out the picture from the trip they wanted in the mat frame. You use fabric markers for the pillowcase and put cardboard inside so they can sign. Put it into the dryer for 15 minutes to set the ink before using/washing.

I have seen people do picture frames so they can add a picture from their vacation when they get home. I haven't done it but always thought that was a great idea and something you would actually display.

Hmm, I use the (I think) 64 lb cardstock. Last year I think it was about 30 pages (front/back 1/2 size ~ about 120 character cards).

This year for my DisneyLand trip, I'm looking at about 32 pages, and the estimate online puts it about $25.

You should look through the boards designers section. That's where I got the idea for the books last year. I use MS Publisher and I insert clip art and word art and borders for each of the characters I expect we are going to see. I also do it in order of all our character dining first then by each individual park. And when I do the characters by each park I try to get an idea of who and when we are going to see first. I get a lot of help from Kenny the Pirates help on which characters to see when and where. Like Aladdin and jasmine have M&Gs in epcot and magic kingdom but Kenny says the wait is often less at epcot bc their M&G is at the back of the morrocan pavilion. I put a lot of time and thought into my autograph books but they are a lot of fun to make, I even got a ton of compliments from other guests last year wondering where I got out autograph books lol. It definitely makes a difference that's for sure.

When we saw tigger at 1900 park fare he got so excited to see his own page in our books and my kids both love tigger and they both have a stuff tigger and wanted to bring their stuff tigers to breakfast to show tigger. Tigger was jumping up and down to have such big fan of his in the restaurant. It was so cute! I've never seen 1 of the non face characters act like that!
