Autographs What kind of Sharpie do you use?

This my third trip to Disney, but my 4 DS's first visit and we are going to do autographs. I want to have the correct markers for the job!!

Right now I bought the Sharpie Fine Retractable. The marker itself seems large enough, I just don't know if the fine tip is big enough?

I would like to get input from veteran Disney visitors.

My girls used that marker for getting autographs and it worked great! You never had to worry about where the cover was and tip size worked well.

We used the big Sharpie with a writing point (not too thin). It worked great, the characters were able to hold the pen without too much effort. Only downside is that it has a cover you need to keep track of. Is the retractable pen thick? Or normal size?

The retractable Sharpie that we used was thick and the characters were able to use it easily.

We always use a retractable ballpoint pen. We get them at disney. The pen itself is oversized so it's easy for the characters to use. The sharpie pens bleed through on the other pages of our autograph book.

Just do not use green sharpie. It is impossible to get out!

I bought the autograph books from disney.com. I was wondering if markers bleed through the paper? Sharpies bleed through just about anything. Has anyone had luck with another kind of marker? I also read somewhere here that the characters have fun with the multiple color ball point pens and sometimes sign in many colors.

We used the retractable sharpies and they worked great! Brought different colors on different days

I dont use sharpies.i just use a regular pen.Pens work just s well

My kids are teens - last time we went to WDW, they had t-shirts and hats signed by characters. The characters are willing to sign most things (no body parts) with Sharpie pens - the fat kind and regular are good ones - not thin points.

Big hand characters like Goofy and Mickey have a hard time holding a pen/pencil size tool.

Retractable sharpies are a godsend for autographs. They make everything so much easier. Those fat Kooky Klicker pens, on the other hand, are not so easy. You probably won't get as good an autograph if you give a character that, because they just can't grip it as well as a normal pen. Actually, try to stay clear of any short, stubby pen. Characters with big paws can't make something like a mini-sharpie even touch the page.

Another vote for Sharpie retractables. They are the best! Our last trip I bought a full set of colors because we used a 7 x 7 scrap book for our autograph book. Then I handed the characters specific colors to sign with. It came out great, and the markers show up so well. They will go with us again on our next trip too!

I found a two pack of very thick retractable ball point pens at Office Max that worked great for my kids. The characters were able to hold them easily and I didn't have to worry about markers bleeding through the paper. I liked them so much I put them away for our next trip.

Before we went to Disney last time I had stopped at my local drug store and found a rack of pens on display.. Very thick bodied. Strong tipped balt point pen ( about the size of a oversized sharpie.) but the best part was these pens where personalized pens so I was able to get one for my son with his name on the clip.. They where easy for the characters to use and we got lots of autographs without any hassle with the pens.

How much space do you give the characters to sign on? I am planning on making an autograph book for myself this trip but I am struggling on how much space to leave each character. I have Disney paper to cover the album and I was planning on attaching white strips of paper for where I want them to sign. SO, bottom line- how big do I need to cut the strips?

I would do about 4 inches, although you could get by with about 2 inches for face characters.

Our autograph book was a 4x6 and several of the characters used a good portion of the page for their autographs.

Now I know why all the char have those dirty marker prints on those paws and gloves.. why not get those nice smelling washable markers so they can have clean paws and gloves? mmmmmmm bubble gum autographs lol

My family and I were in Animal Kingdom earlier today and my son wanted to get Donald Duck's autograph. I pulled a green sharpie out of my back-pack and the CM quickly told me they could not use green sharpies and instead we used a blue one.

Why can't they use the green ones?
