Any advice on pens/Sharpies for autographs?

I don't know whether to pick up a Sharpie to bring down or just pick up one of the pens at WDW when we buy an autograph book...

I figured my niece would like to pick out the book herself at WDW, so I'm sure we'll be getting a pen there as well haha

Do you think the WDW pen will do the job or do I need to bring a Sharpie or something else? If so, what kind should I purchase?

Thanks in advance! We leave Saturday morning and even though I have been numerous times I have never taken a child!!!

Sharpie

(Not Green.)

I bought the retractable sharpie's for out trips. I buy the multi color pack, then the autographs are all in different colors.

I bought wider than average gel pens (in black) for use & the characters didn't seem to have a problem with them. And I love the style, even thought usually I hate the wider pens, so now I keep some around the house. I've heard a few horror stories about the WDW pens not working well, so I picked a style that doesn't seem to have as many issues. And HECK if I was handing my kids a Sharpie. :)

I agree with the suggestion on the retractable sharpies. We've had problems with the WDW pens before and the sharpies come in great colors are big enough for the characters and the fact that they are retractable makes them so easy to use. But follow Robo's advice and keep the green one at home. Something about that color I think it stains worse or something?

Our children DS =17 & DS = 20 - only 3 meals with characters - but their pick
1900 Park Fair dinner
Crystal Palace 8:05 :rotfl2: breakfast - our kids said they would get up:rotfl2:
Garden Grill dinner

We are bringing a white DIS baseball cap - a win from DIS unplugged - and are going to have characters sign it.

We bought a standard, cap, color Sharpie 8 pack to have the baseball cap signed with.

When we get home our 17 year old will place the baseball cap in her room - unless, we, the parents can put it in the living room or our bedroom for a nice souvenir;)

When they were younger, we used the autograph books - they still sit in their drawers. Maybe when they are 30 or 40, they will look at them again. :rotfl:
So no more autograph books for our family.

Thanks so much for all the replies!

Looks like the retractable sharpies are the way to go!

I was concerned with bleeding through the pages as I seen a few postings about it on other threads and I havent personally seen the autograph books up close...

But, it doesn't sound like that is a concern, or is it?

no worries about bleeding sharpies work great. Just to confirm, sometimes pens can smear, sharpies wont do that. So for sure sharpies. I would recommend the autograph books that have a place for a picture and signature. That why they are a photo album and are less likely to sit in a drawer.
