How do autograph books for characters work? Do many kids use them? Can you get them anywhere in parks (or ahead of time anywhere?) also how expensive?
Thanks!

I remember using one when I was 6 years old (many years ago now!!) and I loved it so I hope kids still use them. I see Disney store sells them online for $8-$20 and there's some great DIY ones on Pinterest.

My kids love them. It's a great way for them to engage with the characters, especially if they are a little hesitant.

I've bought while at Disney and brought my own Sharpies and I've made my own. Just depends on you. The Disney ones vary in price and quality. You can see them online at the Disney Store site.

LOTS of kids have them, and some grown ups. We just get the $8 one, smaller and works out fine. They are online and at every possible shopping stop in Disney.

Stuff we do:
- Use it for all characters to sign.
- Have special CMs sign it.
- Add stickers after they sign (or you could do ahead) to jazz up the pages.
- Use in EPCOT to get stamped at the countries and have them write a message. We also ask them to write DS name in their language.
- Write in front First Name, Hotel, Dates, and Cell Number. If lost and turned in they will get it to you.
- DS has even started writing in it things he wants to remember to YouTube it.

We didn't do it last year, but the boys want to do it this year. I bought the autograph books at the Disney store in the local mall for $10 each and it came with a cute Mickey pen.

I bought autograph books for my kids on our last visit at the resort gift shop but then when I went to the closest Walmart for bottled water I found tons of Disney memorabilia at Walmart prices. Bought a set of pens with characters on them and a cute Tink lanyard that I still have!

You can make an autograph book we easy enough check out the craft board here for some amazing pages you can print out onto card stock. there's adorable fake coupons kids can 'use' to get treats too! Sometimes it encourages characters to do special drawings in the books too.

I highly recommend using a sharpie for characters to sign. Pens are very thin and sometimes they can get gloved hands around them. Some characters like Buzz use stamps so be prepared for that.

Check out disney.go or laughingplace.com. there's 2 types of books a basic blue one and a pink princess one that holds pictures.

I love the idea of also making notes, etc in the book. Maybe even as an evening activity while the kids wind down. I will make it and I've heard the retractable sharpies are the best for the characters to handle. I am considering dismantling the "book" and adding the autographs to a photo book after the trip. DS may not think that's a good idea, though ;)

We have always bought the autograph books that have a spot for photos. Then when we return from our trip I wait for Shutterfly to have a promo for free photos and get them printed.

My daughter has used one each trip (ages 7, 9, 10, 11) and my son had one at age 2 when we had several character meals and I just made each child a character meal autograph book.

He loved using his book on the last 2 trips (ages 3 and 4). It really helped him walk up to characters on his own. I’ve paid $5 (a small spiral bound Disney themed note pad) up to $12 (a combination autograph book and photo album) to $15 (an autograph book with a matching tote bag and pen I got on eBay). The tote bag got used again just with a different book. They have lots of the books in the parks and matching pens. And I love the pens they sell there because they are bigger and easier for the characters to handle.

Our Disney store doesn’t sell the books; but I guess some do and they do sell them online. I’ve also gotten some on eBay and some Etsy sellers have them too.

Autograph books are used by many kids AND adults. For my daughter, I purchased the newest Disney Jr. Encyclopedia from Amazon. At the time it was only available in hardcover. I went to Office Max, had the cover removed and had it spiral-bound.. One of the lovely DISigners made a name-fill Mickey head for me, which I had laminated and added as the cover of the book. I think it's a wonderful keepsake. I highly suggest using the retractable Sharpie markers. They're relatively easy for the characters to hold, come in lots of colors, and aren't messy.

We bought our autograph books at Disney Store beforehand but they are everywhere in WDW. What we tried to do was have the book open to a blank page and pen ready for the characters to sign. I think it was mentioned before, but have a thick enough pen/marker for the costumed characters to get their gloves around. Enjoy! We love looking through the books and seeing how every character has a special signature. :)
