Auto Stunt Show Being Built This Year?

A local park also doesn't get the food/merhcandise/hotel revenue that WDW gets from a new attraction.

Yes, there's a massive infrastructure cost for WDW, but even they benefit from economies of scale. And again, with this massive cost comes massive revenue. I get that it costs a lot more to run four parks than it does to run one, but four parks generate more revenue as well.

I mean, the whole reason that WDW has all of this cost is because it was infinitely more successful than any other amusement/theme park could ever hope to be. To now suggest that because of the success that allowed it to grow so large, WDW can only afford 1 major attraction every 4 years while the local one-off parks can do one every year is just too much.

Yes, I know a Disney "E-ticket" is generally more expensive than a Podunk Park "major addition", but that's also why Disney has higher margins and greater peripheral revenue.

****"When you expect people to invest a week or two of their time/money instead of a day or two, you're going to have to offer them more frequent new stuff. " ****

If you exclude us fanatics, how often would you say the average WDW guest visits ? People I know range anywhere from 2-5 years. They wait for their kids to "grow into" the bigger and better rides. For the average visitor, one new biggie, handful of littles and a bunch of refurb/upgrades can make the place seem mighty new and fresh.

For some, sure it does. But I really don't think that's enough for a large enough set of people to keep putting down the kind of dough it takes for a WDW vacation.

If you're talking non-fanatics, you're also talking about people who might not consider Pirates, HM, or even ToT the type of things that are worth thousands of dollars when they've "been there, done that.". All the more reason to entice them with more than one biggie.

(I'm also not sure we should so easily dismiss us "fanatics", and also locals, but I guess that's another topic...)

IMHO, I wouldn't agree that it is good to only have a major attraction every 3-4 years, because that does add up to 12-16 years for each park to get an attraction. But I also wouldn't agree that every thing had to cost 100 million dollars, either. I think that you all aren't really that far apart in what you are saying - Scoop is saying that every year there would be some new smaller things, minor attractions, shows, whatever. What I'd like to see is something big new every year or two in one of the parks, and some small things new every year. In other words, I'd like for each park to get something big every 4 four years or so, like one year Epcot, next year AK, next year MGM, next year maybe there isn't a really big thing, etc. But some smaller things every year, even if it is a parade or something. Something new.

Anyway, I thought it would help this thread, and the other one about DAK too, for that matter, to put in a brief history of the world - I've been typing in a lot on these boards lately so this is the last long thing I will type for a while. Also, I'm using a couple of different sources here including old park maps and disney magazines and my best recolletions, so there may be some errors here but it is mostly right. Finally, I'm not going to attempt this for disneyland, someone else can if you want a bigger picture.

I rarely have posted here, but thought I'd add something I'd heard from a CM on Wednesday. A saw a longtime friend of my family earlier this week. He's a CM at the Indy Stunt show and has been for about 9 years or so.

I don't see him often and told him I'd heard a new Auto Stunt show like the once in DL Paris is coming to MGM. He said it's slated to open in 2005.

Just thought I'd share that here.....

:D
